MONROE — After several years of holding a Punt, Kick and Throw fundraiser, the Mark Mueller Scholarship Fund organizers will hold a tennis tournament for players 4th grade and older. The inaugural event will be held this Saturday, Aug. 8, at the new Monroe High School tennis courts on the city’s far east side.

Mark Mueller was a 2001 MHS graduate and died unexpectedly in college in 2003. He was a two-time state-qualifying tennis player in 2000 and 2001. A portion of the funds raised from the tournament will go towards the Mark Mueller Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund has given out $42,500 in scholarships since 2020.

The tournament will be doubles-only, and will include multiple skill divisions, including youth. A side theme is “Christmas in August”. Players that dress up in any Christmas apparel will be entered in a raffle to win fun prizes.
