Bobby Louis Wunschel, age 86, of Juda, died at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 26, 2026 following a battle with cancer. Bob was born on April 3, 1940 in Freeport, the son of Nellis and Marie (Ostrander) Wunschel. He was a 1958 graduate of Juda High School. Bob and Nancy Campbell were united in marriage on December 5, 1959 at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Bob was very proud to have served in the U.S. Army National Guard for eight years including six months of active duty. He worked as an auto mechanic, plumber, electrician, farmer, and truck driver. Most recently he enjoyed driving school bus for the Juda School District.
Bob volunteered for 27 years with the Juda Fire Department including seven years as chief. He loved spending time with his family and giving his grandchildren Bombardier ATV rides. In retirement, Bob could be found reading, doing word finds, playing cards especially solitarie, hearts, or euchre, tinkering in his shop, or restoring his 1955 John Deere Tractor. He was a member of the Dairyland Motorcycle Club and American Legion.
Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy Wunschel of Juda; four daughters, Dawn (Brian) Hanson of Juda, Pamela (Del) Wolter of Brodhead, Suzanne (Eric) Ambler of Monroe, Roberta (Chad) Stricker of Browntown; six grandchildren, Tyler (Katie) Hanson, Alyssa (Kyle) Cessna, Cheyenne (Trevor) Drain, Bobby (Maddie) Wolter, Emma Stricker, Ashlyn Stricker; and four great-grandchildren, Annalise and Ellis Cessna, Weston Drain, and Rylee Hanson. He is further survived by his sister, Helen Behring; three brothers, Bill (Astrid), Richard (Marcia), Donald (Jennifer); brother-in-law, Alton Stuckey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lawrence and Walter; and sister-in-law, Virginia Stuckey.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 3:30 p.m., at Hope Evangelical Free Church, 2902 13th Street, Monroe, with Pastor Kelly Jahn officiating. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 1:30 p.m. Interment with military honors will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Juda, followed by a luncheon at Monroe American Legion Post #84.
