In recent weeks State Senator Howard Marklein, seeking reelection to the Wisconsin Senate in District 17, has touted his opposition to two proposed high voltage transmission lines that would cut through the district. It would damage “some of the most pristine land in Wisconsin” Sen. Marklein warns. It appears the Senator would like us to believe that for him, protection of our environment is a high priority. But his voting record tells a very different story.

In every legislative session, the Wisconsin Conservation Voters (WCV) tracks and scores how each legislator votes on bills related to the environment and natural resources. The scores range from 0% support to 100% support of legislation that promotes being good stewards of our natural resources. Sen. Marklein has a lifetime score of 17% as a legislator.

In contrast, Assembly Rep. Jenna Jacobson, Sen. Marklein’s opponent in the Senate race, was named one of this year’s WCV Conservation Champions for her perfect score of 100 percent. If you value safe water, clean air, healthy soil, public lands and outdoor recreation, make your vote on November 3rd match your values.
