NEW GLARUS — The New Glarus School District is celebrating an outstanding connection between the high school and the University of Wisconsin–Madison Marching Band. This fall, five New Glarus High School alumni are performing as members of the prestigious UW Marching Band, representing their hometown and the music program that helped develop their talents.
New Glarus alum Ella Skidmore, a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, is the newest member of the group. Skidmore, who plays trumpet, successfully earned a position in the UW Marching Band and will perform with the band throughout the upcoming school year.
Joining Ella as New Glarus alumni in the UW Marching Band are Trenton Hendrickson, Elena Marunde, Dylan Fritz, and Delaney Hoeper. Having five graduates from the same high school performing in one of the nation’s most recognized collegiate marching bands is a tremendous source of pride for the district, the school, and the area music community, the district said in a press release
Membership in the UW Marching Band requires significant dedication, musical ability, and commitment. Students participate in demanding rehearsals and performances while balancing the academic responsibilities of college life. For New Glarus students and families, seeing five former students continue their musical journeys at the University of Wisconsin–Madison is a wonderful reflection of the opportunities and experiences provided through the district’s music programs.
“We are incredibly proud to see our New Glarus graduates continuing to share their musical talents at the University of Wisconsin,” said New Glarus High School Band Director Amy Doefer. “Having five alumni performing in the UW Marching Band is a remarkable accomplishment and a great example of how the experiences students have in our schools can continue to make an impact long after graduation.”
The accomplishment also highlights the importance of music education and extracurricular opportunities in helping students discover their interests, develop their talents, and build confidence. NGHS, the district said, is proud to provide students with opportunities to perform, collaborate, lead, and pursue their passions both inside and outside the classroom.
