MONROE — Green County experienced a server issue that impacted the timely reporting of election results following Tuesday’s election.

Around 9 p.m., the Green County Clerk’s Office became aware of an issue impacting the reporting of unofficial election night results. In working with our election equipment vendor, Liberty Vote, it was determined that the County’s server equipment and results reporting program were not properly communicating with one another. As a result, transmitted results were contained in encrypted files that County staff were unable to access or open for reporting.

Once it was determined that the issue would not be resolved in a timely manner and they would not be able to access the unofficial transmitted results, Green County staff pivoted and began contacting municipal clerks in an effort to manually obtain and load results to the County’s website. By 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, all unofficial results were received from municipalities and loaded into the reporting system. Subsequently the unofficial results with 100% of precincts reporting were posted to the county’s website.

In a press release from Green County Clerk Arianna Voegeli, she said the county understands the importance of timely and accurate election results and sincerely apologized for the delay and any inconveniences the reporting issue may have caused. Voegeli said the County Clerk’s office is committed to ensuring the issue does not occur again and assured voters the delay in reporting does not indicate a problem with the election itself or the votes cast by Green County voters.

“We take the responsibility of protecting and accurately reporting the votes of Green County voters very seriously,” Voegeli said. “Our staff, municipal clerks, and election technology vendor are working diligently to resolve this issue and put contingency steps into place to ensure that this does not happen again in the November General Election.”
