Circa 1975 Monticello Messenger newspaper article of 1922 Monticello High School Football team that was coached by Earl “Pop” Foster (1895-1960). Earl was born and raised in Roberts, Wisconsin a village in St. Croix County. He graduated in 1913 with the first Roberts High School graduating class. Earl graduated in 1915 from Wisconsin State College at River Falls and later attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He was married in 1917 to Miss Zoe Hancock of Monticello. Six children were born to this union. Earl served in WWI and was in the army of occupation in France after the war. Earl “Pop” Foster taught Physical Education and coached at Monticello for 10 years before moving to Port Washington. He taught PE and coached many outstanding track teams including several championship teams while at Port Washington High School. After 29 years of teaching, Earl retired in June 1960.
