John E. Daane, age 81, a longtime Monroe music educator, died on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at Monroe SSM Hospital. John was born on December 12, 1944, the son of Erwin and Helen (Lemmenes) Daane. John graduated from Ripon High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Music Education from Hope College in Holland, Michigan. John served in the U.S. Army for 19 months until his honorable discharge. He was employed as a music teacher in the Monroe School District for 47 years with the last 45 years at Northside Elementary before retiring in 2013. He played organ and piano at several area churches and was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church for 60 years where he served in music and ministry. His musical gift was evident as he directed the MUMC Handbell Choir and provided music for several Monroe Theatre Guild performances.

He is survived by nephews, Kevin (Rebecca) Day of Waupun, Steven (Janel) Day of Sun Prairie, Brad (Katie) Day of Poynette; brother-in-law, Rodney Day of Randolph; six great-nieces and nephews; and three great-great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth Day.

A public memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Fellowship Hall. Per John’s wishes there will be no formal church services held. Private inurnment of John’s ashes will be held at a later date in Alto Cemetery, Fond du Lac County. In lieu of sending flowers or plants, a memorial fund will be established in John’s name for the Monroe United Methodist Church and Monroe Schools.
