BLANCHARDVILLE — The eighth seeded Pecatonica Vikings had their season come to an end with a 6-2 loss to the ninth seeded Southwestern Willdcats in a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal on Thursday, May 21.
Southwestern led from the start by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. The Vikings picked up a run in the bottom of the first as Katelynne Jorenby singled and advanced to second on a hit by Gretta Schraepfer. Kiaya York was then hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases. Jorenby scored when Leaha Doescher grounded into an RBI fielder’s choice.
The Vikings scored again in the second inning as Brooklyn Muench singled and later scored on Brooklyn Johnsrud’s RBI single. That closed the gap to 3-2 but would be all the scoring for the Vikings as they were shut out on just two hits the rest of the way. The Wildcats got a run in the fourth and two runs in the sixth to close out the Vikings.
Schraepfer was 2x3 with a double and a walk and Johnsrud had a hit and an RBI to lead the Vikings, which finished the year 2-15 overall and 2-11 in the Six Rivers. Jenna Kurschner started in the circle for Pec and allowed six runs on 10 hits, two walks and five strikeouts.
