The Zilmer-Riley American Legion Post #84, the Cecil Jones Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2312 and community members honored those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country during the annual Memorial Day presentation on Monday, May 25 at Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe.
As early as 6 a.m., volunteers raised the Avenue of Flags leading into the cemetery, followed by decorating graves of deceased veterans. At 9 a.m., the Legion Color Guard, Legion Poppy Princess Aubree Drake, local organizations and the Monroe High School Marching Band paraded from Recreation Park to the cemetery center flagpole.
The guest speaker was Paul Gregersen.
