Monticello’s Heidi Olson joins WIAA Leadership team
Heidi Olson
Monticello’s Heidi Olson has been selected to join the WIAA’s student-athlete leadership team next school year, 2026-27, as a junior. Olson is an honor roll academic and a three-sport star. She helped lead the Albany-Monticello Space Stallions to a second place finish in girls basketball this past March, and plays a key role on the Monticello-New Glarus softball team.

STEVENS POINT — The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association has selected 14 high school student-athletes entering their junior year to serve a two-year term on the Student-Athlete Leadership Team, which expands to 30 members in 2026-27.

Student-Athletes throughout the state expressed interest in serving on the team by submitting an application form and a short introductory video. The WIAA received 177 applications this spring. The number of representatives from each district is determined by a percentage of member schools in each of the seven districts, as well as three new at-large positions.

The following are the names and school affiliations of the 2026-27 Student-Athlete Leadership Team.

Owen Anderson, a junior from Arcadia appointed to the WIAA team for 2026-27, will also become the first Wisconsin student-athlete to serve on the National Federation of State High School Associations National Student Advisory Council when his term begins in 2026-27.

The purpose of the Student-Athlete Leadership Team is to serve as ambassadors for their peers and the WIAA while learning more about the sports industry. Their involvement provides a student-athlete voice in the WIAA and will assist in supporting, educating and advancing the purpose of interscholastic athletics. The Leadership Team engages in an advisory role without rule-making authority, but their input is conveyed at the various levels of the committee process.

Additional benefits include instilling leadership skills, compiling diverse ideas and perspective from different areas of the state, and learning more about the many career opportunities in sports professions. Team members also obtain a better understanding of how the WIAA functions and creates the interest and growth of student-athlete leadership groups at local schools.

Members on the team will engage in four meetings per year, attend WIAA State Tournaments each season, plan and participate in the Fall Area Meetings, as well as organize and participate in a biennial WIAA Leadership Conference.

The 2026-27 Leadership Team’s orientation meeting will be scheduled in August at the WIAA e
