Breaking: Fatal Truck vs. Buggy crash in Lafayette Co.

DARLINGTON — A Mineral Point man is dead following a truck vs. buggy crash north of Darlington on Tuesday, May 19. It is the second motor vehicle fatality on Lafayette County roadways in 2026.

At 4:18 p.m., the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a 911 call reporting a truck vs buggy crash in the 17000 block of Wis. 23 in the Town of Willow Springs. Lafayette County Deputies, Lafayette County EMS, and Darlington Fire Department were all dispatched.

The investigation of the crash revealed that an Amish open style buggy, pulled by a single horse and driven by Joseph Z. Glick, 56, of Mineral Point, was traveling northbound on Wis. 23 when the buggy was struck from behind by a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado pickup, also traveling northbound and driven by Brett D. Durni, 36, of Dodgeville.

Glick was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office. Durni, the driver of the truck, was not injured.

The horse pulling the buggy was severely injured and had to be euthanized at the scene.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Lafayette County EMS, Darlington Fire Department, Lafayette County Highway Department and Center Hill Veterinary Service. Wis. 23 was closed down and detoured for a short time during the investigation of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
