To the Editor:
Please join me in voting for Bill Oemichen for 50th District State Assembly in the August 11th Democratic primary election. His many years of experience in state and local government have provided him with the tools to tackle critical issues facing our state such as school funding, affordable housing and health care access.
Some have claimed that Bill is “part of the elite” because he is a lawyer and has an extensive resume of professional accomplishments. This claim is far from the truth.
Bill grew up on a farm in western Minnesota and put himself through college and law school. And what has he done with his law degree? He has used it to make Wisconsin and his community a better place to live. He is not a big-city lawyer earning big bucks representing corporations and wealthy clients. Bill is currently a Law and Local Government Educator for UW-Madison Extension and works closely with county, city, village and town officials across the state to help ensure effective and ethical governance. Before that, he was President & CEO of Cooperative Network, an organization of member-owned cooperatives. He has also served as Wisconsin’s Trade & Consumer Protection Administrator, and as Preparedness and Emergency Health Care Director for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
Moreover, Bill has applied his education and professional experience in serving his fellow citizens in various capacities. He is in his eighth year of service on the New Glarus School Board, and his sixth year as its President. He also serves on the Board of Green County Leaders, as the unpaid chair of the Board of Trustees for the state’s $9.4 Billion College Savings Program (Edvest), and served with me as a member and past board chair of Monroe Clinic and Hospital.
In short, there is no other candidate better equipped to represent our area in Madison. Please give him your vote on August 11th.
