CUBA CITY — The first regular season high school sporting events started thanks to the Darlington girls’ golf team, who completed its first two competitions of the year. The Redbirds first competed at home on Aug. 14, placing third, then at Southwestern/Cuba City/Benton two days later, collecting a consecutive team bronze.

In its hosted competition, Darlington shot a 274 to place behind the Wildcats (252) and champion-Lancaster (223). The Flying Arrows’ Margot Dhyanchand earned medalist honors at 10-over-par on the par-35 country club, with Adeline Riechers (55) earning second for the Redbirds. Elle Addie followed for the tri-op at third with a 57 ahead of Eliza Haas (L) and Peyton Kipper (L) in a two-way tie for fourth a stroke back.

The remainder of Darlington’s roster fell outside the top-10, with Rose Gruetzmacher (11th, 70), Anyka Johnson (13th, 73), Sarina Ford (14th, 76), and Melany Reese (15th, 81) completing the Redbirds’ varsity efforts.

In its latter meet, Darlington shot a 257 to finish behind the Wildcats (228) and champion-Lancaster (212). Addie (SW/CC/B) carded a 44 for medalist honors ahead of Dhyanchand (L, 47), Greta Jensen (L, 52), and Kipper (L, 55), with teammate Sophia Husemann rounding out the top-5 at 57.

Redbird representation wasn’t far behind, as Riechers tied with two other golfers at sixth as she shot a 58 on the par 36 course. Reese followed six strokes back alone at ninth, followed one spot back by Ford (66). The 15-golfer varsity field saw Anne Richardson shooting a 69 for 12th, and Gruetzmacher seven strokes back at 15th.

Darlington hosted the annual Gary Ringen Invitational on Aug. 20. The Redbirds will travel to Mount Horeb on Aug. 24, then to Wisconsin Dells on Aug. 26. On Aug. 28, Darlington will host a conference mini meet.
