VERONA — Monroe’s boys and girls won the Division 2 titles at the Verona Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 5. The boys team finished with 71 points, six ahead of Fort Atkinson, while the girls had 79 points, five better than McFarland. There were 11 teams in Division 2, and more than 30 teams at the invite.

Braylin Cleary led Monroe’s girls squad with a sixth place finish (20:29.7). Nevaeh Huenefeld (14th, 21:31.9), Alivia Mosher (16th, 21:50.1), Elizabeth Veeder (21st, 22:06.7), Annika Folk (22nd, 22:16.7) and Lyla Ritschard (24th, 22:28.1) also ran in the varsity race for the Cheesemakers.

Ace Rossing (17:28.1) paced Monroe’s boys team with a sixth-place finish, followed closely by Kamrin Gerber-Reamer (8th, 17:33.6). Landon Smith (17th, 18:16.8), Weston Huntsman (19th, 18:21.3), Isaiah Ritschard (21st, 18:27.2) and Lucas Veeder (37th, 19:23.1) also ran varsity for the Cheesemakers.

New Glarus-Monticello girls were fourth in Division 3. Sadie Mitchell (21:15.7) was fourth, followed by Holly Maynard (7th, 21:40.5).

The NGM boys were fifth in Division 3, being led by Dylan Gardner (11th, 18:53.9) and Gavin Anderson (17th, 19:12.1).

East Kentwood (Mich.) senior Matii Tarekegn was the overall boys winner with a time of 15:48.1. Madison West senior Violet Wickizer paced the girls race at 18:58.0.

Darlington Invitational

DARLINGTON — Albany boys finished second and the host Redbirds were third in the girls race at the annual Darlington Invitational Sept. 5.

Fennimore (64) won the boys team title, just ahead of the Comets (97). Belleville was 10th (261), followed by Darlington (11th, 263) and Argyle-Pecatonica (12th, 266).

Albany’s Noah Lisser was sixth overall with a time of 18:30.6. Teammate Kamden Broughton was ninth (18:32.5) and Brooks Wachholz finished 16th (19:02.6). Belleville’s Carson Biermeier (19:00.0) was 15th overall. Darlington was paced by a seventh place finish from Marcus Kendall (18:30.9). Mitchell Johnsen’s 19:36.9 was the best time for Argyle-Pec and 26th overall.

On the girls side, Darlington’s 99 points were third behind Platteville (96) and champion Southwestern/Benton (77). Darlington’s Alaina McGowan (19:45.1) was third overall, with teammate Brianna Vazquez 10th (21:28.7).

Albany was seventh as a team, led by Emerson Butts (22nd, 22:44.6). Argyle-Pecatonica was 12th as a team and led by Emma Johnsen (34th, 23:48.4). Belleville was 13th and paced by Kate Hendrickson (31st, 23:36.6).

Lodi Invite

LODI — Brodhead-Juda’s girls team was fourth at the seventh team Lodi Invite on Sept. 5. The boys team was seventh. Parkview won the girls race, while Janesville Parker was the top scoring boys team.

Olivia Brooks finished with a 22:27.3 for Brodhead-Juda, the team’s top finish and fifth overall.

Ashton Henze (20:23.3) was 19th and the top finisher for Brodhead-Juda’s boys team.
