JANESVILLE — The Cheesemakers picked up a tight 4-3 win over Janesville Craig on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

“We came into this match with quite a bit of excitement, as the weekly state tennis rankings were released and Monroe cracked the rankings as we are now ranked the No. 10 team in the state for Division 2,” said coach Matt Bordner. “It’s the first time in over a decade our girls team has been ranked.”

Monroe received three wins from its singles lineup, and another from its No. 2 doubles tandem. Jade Tran won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-4; Bralyn Liphart swept at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0; Ella Mortimer won at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-1; and Kaya Holverson and Miah Coppes won in doubles 6-2, 6-1.

“Kaya and Miah picked up our lone win in doubles and continue to improve together as a team,” Bordner said. “We dropped 2 super tiebreakers again tonight which was disappointing and will continue to be an area we will focus on.”

Monroe (10-2), was set to face Big Foot at home on Thursday, Sept. 10.
