Do you know what’s in your drinking water? The Green County Water Quality Coalition, made up of members from the Green County Land and Water Conservation Department, UW-Extension, and Green County Public Health are teaming up to help residents find out.

A free educational event to help private well owners learn about Private Wells and safe drinking water will be held at the Green County Government Services Building, lower level, Community Conference Rooms (N3152 WI-81, Monroe, WI) on Wednesday, July 29, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Unlike public water systems, private well owners are responsible for testing and maintaining their own water supply to make sure it is safe to drink. This event is designed to give well owners the knowledge and tools they need to protect their families and their properties.

Event Highlights Include:

● Local Water Contaminants: Learn what specific contaminants are common in Green County groundwater and what risks they might pose.

● Well Maintenance 101: Discover best practices for maintaining your private well.

● Water Treatment Systems & Real-Life Experience: Learn about the different types of water treatment and filtration systems available. A local coalition member will also share how they navigated getting a Reverse Osmosis system and making their drinking water safe.

Testing your well water is the only way to make sure it is safe to drink. To encourage testing, the first 10 people in attendance will receive reduced-cost private well water testing from Green County Public Health.

“We often take our drinking water for granted, but regular testing and maintenance are incredibly important for private well owners,” said Tonya Gratz, Soil Conservationist at Green County Land and Water. “This event is a fantastic opportunity for Green County residents to get direct answers from local experts and protect their household’s health.”

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required, but community members are encouraged to arrive early to take advantage of the discounted water testing. For more information about the event, please contact Green County Public Health at 608-328-9390.
