Joann Marty, age 86 of South Wayne passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026 at the SSM Health Hospital. She was born on February 9, 1940 the daughter of Alfred and Lucille (Butler) Peterson. She attended South Wayne High School. On November 4, 1957 Joann was united in marriage to Delano Marty in South Wayne.
Joann bartended and managed Marty's Village Inn with her husband, Delano, for nearly 50 years. If you knew Joann, you knew she loved to have a good time. She enjoyed playing cards and dice, listening to country music, dancing, and taking road trips. A devoted sports fan, she loved the Green Bay Packers and the Buffalo Bills. Joann also loved horse racing and especially looked forward to the Kentucky Derby each year. She and Delano enjoyed traveling getting to see all 48 continental states. They shared nearly 63 years of marriage together before his passing in 2020.
Joann is survived by 6 children, Cammy Meier, Cary Marty, Lonny Marty, Jimmy (Joni) Marty, and Jaqui (Dan) Haldiman all of South Wayne, and Delana (Chad) Romenesko of Wrightstown; 11 grandchildren, Terra (Barry) Junk, Kyle (Chelsea) Stauffacher, Mitchell Marty, Michael (Janel) Marty; Reid, Ella, and Bryn Romenesko; Kaylee and Lane Marty; Dylan and Brett Haldiman; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Linda (Myron) Meythaler of South Wayne, Ted (Connie) Peterson of Brodhead, Angie Ritschard of Woodford, Mary (Tom) McGinnis of Gratiot; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters, Tamra, Dawn, and Candy; son-in-law, Duane Meier; daughter-in-law, Robin Marty; granddaughter, Carly Haldiman; grandson, Zachary Haldiman; great-granddaughter, Kandace Junk; brothers, Gale Peterson and Leonard "Buck" Peterson; parents-in-law, Joseph and Evelyn Marty; sisters-in-law, Marlys Peterson and Nola Stark; brother-in-law, Gary Stark; nephew, Steve Stark; and niece, Cindee Sweeney.
Private Graveside Services will be held at Union Cemetery in South Wayne.
