DHS boys 3rd, girls 4th at SWAL championship

HAZEL GREEN — The SWAL Conference held its boys and girls conference track meets at Southwestern High School in Hazel Green on Monday, May 18. Fennimore won both team titles, with the boys scoring 160 points and the girls 145. Darlington boys finished in third (106) points while the girls were fourth (72).

In the boys meet for Darlington, Calum Crist was sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.70 seconds. Zeke Zuberbuhler won the 200-meter dash, setting a meet record time of 22.43. Marcus Kendall got second place in the 800 (2:06.89). In the 1,600, Brody Cooper was 10th (6:05.83).

Parker Smith came in third in the 110-meter hurdles (17.42), and teammate Mason Wiegel was seventh in the 300 hurdles (48.15).

At 44.82 seconds in the 4x100 meter relay, the Redbirds team of Peyton Dempsey, Ryder Fitzsimons, Calum Crist, and Zuberbuhler were champions. Another win for the Redbirds came in the 4x200 meter relay (1:32.42; Dempsey, Fitzsimons, Crist, and Zuberbuhler). The 4x800 meter relay (Reyes, Johnson, Wiegel, and Kendall) also took first place (8:47.23), while the 4x400 meter relay (Wiegel, Smith, senior Kane McDermott, and Kendall) finished third (3:48.82).

Smith won the high jump by clearing 13 feet, six inches. Artemio Rico took first place in the triple jump (38-8) and was third in the long jump (18-10.25).

Gage Ruf placed fifth in the shot put (40-7). Evander Wolfe was eighth in the discus (118-3).

In the girls competition, Sarina Ford got eighth in the 200 (30.95). Addison Black was eighth in the 400 (1:10.01). Alaina McGowan won the 800 (2:23.85). In the 1,600-meter run, Austia Stauffacher finished in fourth place (6:08.36). Lilly King was eighth in the 3,200 (14:51.47). Piper DePauw was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.37) and third place in the 300 hurdles (53.18).

The 4x100 meter relay team of Lexie Meyers, Sarina Ford, Bella Ortega, and Catie Hartig finished fourth (55.50). The 4x200 relay (Brenna Edgerton, Ortega, Hartig, and McGowan) were winners (1:53.44). The 4x400 relay team (Welacha, Edgerton, Black, and Brianna Vazquez) was fourth (4:28.84). The 4x800 relay team of Welacha, McGowan, Vazquez, and Adalee Berget set the meet record with a winning time of (9:51.37).

Welacha was fourth in the pole vault (8-3). In the long jump, Harper Wamsley was 13th (12-5.75). Kylie Crist was ninth in the shot put (27-9). Catie Harwig was second in the discus (113-1).

Boscobel Invitational

BOSCOBEL — The Steve “Sparky” Reynolds Memorial Invitational was held in Boscobel on Friday, May 15. Platteville boys won the meet with 66 points and Lancaster girls won with 90 points. Darlington boys placed ninth (29.50 points) and girls placed 17th (17 points) while Argyle-Pecatonica boys (16 points) and girls (21 points) each placed 16th.

In the boys events, Zeke Zuberbuhler placed fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.32) and second in the 200 (22.57). In the 800, Marcus Kendall came in seventh (2:09.25).

The 110 hurdles had Argyle-Pecatonica’s Barrett Ferrell place fifth (17.50), just ahead of Darlington’s Smith (6th, 17.63). The 300-meter hurdles featured AP’s Ayden Slater (4th, 42.42) and Braydon Slater (11th, 46.35).

Darlington’s 4x800 meter relay team of Brandon Reyes, Mason Wiegel, Phoenix Johnson, and Marcus Kendall placed seventh (9:05.85).

Argyle-Pecatonica’s Mikey Helfvogt was seventh in the high jump (5-10), and Darlington’s Parker Smith was eighth (5-8). In the long jump, AP’s Barrett Ferrell was 13th (18-5.75) and Darlington’s Artemio Rico was 15th (18-4). AP’s Ayden Slater was fourth place in the triple jump (39-5.5). Darlington’s Gage Ruf was second in the discus (151-10) and teammate Oliver King was 11th in the shot put (40-3).

In the girls meet, AP’s Loretta Tisch took fifth place in the 200 (28.08), fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.77) and second in the 300 hurdles (47.17). In the 400, AP’s Dalaney Fischer was 13th (1:08.21). Darlington’s Alaina McGowan was fourth in the 800 (2:23.18). Redbird Adalee Berget was fourth in the 1,600 (5:26.56). In the 3,200, Darlington’s Marta Roelli was 12th (15:52.66).

In the relay events, Darlington was sixth in the 4x400 (4:23.60), run by Madison Welacha, Brenna Edgerton, Addison Black, and Alaina McGowan. Darlington’s 4x800 meter relay team of Welacha, Dulce Martinez, Austia Stauffacher, and Brianna Vazquez took sixth (10:31.62).

AP’s Aleah Harris was eighth in the long jump (15-2.5), triple jump (30-0.75), and shot put (33-5.25). Darlington’s Rella Meylor was eighth in the discus (101-5).

Wildcat Invitational

BELLEVILLE — New Glarus boys and girls placed second at the Wildcat Invitational in Belleville on Friday, May 15. New Glarus boys (82 points) finished behind Lodi (121.50). The New Glarus girls (94.50) finished just 5.5 points behind Lodi (100).

The boys results saw Belleville junior Jesse Luchsinger take second in the 100 (11.29). In the 200, NG senior Sawyer O’Flanagan was third (14.19). The 400 saw Belleville junior Carson Biermeier place fifth (57.04). In the 800, NG junior Finian Hoeper took fifth (2:16.40). NG sophomore Benjamin Biank took second place in the 1,600 (5:04.50). Monticello sophomore Ethan Johnson was 10th in the 3,200 (14:45.36).

Black Hawk senior Shane Wand was second in the 110 hurdles (16.10). In the 300 hurdles, NG freshman Ashton Leppien was sixth (47.39).

The Belleville Wildcats were third in the 4x100 meter relay as Matt Allen, Jaiden Sidwell, Isaac Christiansen, and Milo Johnson placed third (45.48). NG’s 4x200 relay team (Ethan Seffrood, O’Flanagan, Sidwell, and Johnson) placed second (1:34.09). NG’s 4x400 (Tikeh Tazeh, Hoeper, Leppien, and Brayden Schmitt) finished fourth (3:54.25). The Albany Comets were the top area team in the 4x800 meter relay, as Noah Lisser, Beckett Wachholz, Kaleb Broughton, and Brooks Wachholz were second (8:50.40).

Lisser was fifth in the high jump (5-8). In the pole vault, Schmitt was third (11-6). NG’s Tucker Sysko placed fourth in the long jump (19-8). In the triple jump, Albany’s Kamron Parker took second (39-4). NG’s Brent Weeden won the shot put (56-9) and was fourth in the discus (134-8).

The girls portion of the Wildcat Invitational, NG’s Vivian Lancaster won the 100 meter dash (12.60). Belleville’s Zoey Pfile was second in the 200 (28.35). Black Hawk’s Jaci Kammes was sixth in the 400 (1:11.86). In the 800, Belleville’s Adelyn Skrede was fifth (2:44.07). Belleville’s Olivia Fox was third in the 1,600 (6:12.32), and Monticello’s Mirielle Smith finished second in the 3,200 (14:05.04).

The 100 hurdles finished with NG’s Marie Besley taking second (16.06). NG’s Clara Winden was 10th in the 300 hurdles (56.13).

New Glarus was second place in the 4x100 relay (50.95) with Gracie Atkinson, Kalia Malaise, Besley, and Lancaster running. NG was also second in the 4x200 (1:47.77; Atkinson, Besley, Lancaster, and Malaise). Albany’s 4x400 quartet of Tatum Doescher, Lydia Ahnen, Piper Patchen, and Emma Thompson were fifth (4:38.38). The Comets’ 4x800 team of Ahnen, Patchen, Doescher, and Thompson were third (11:08.88).

In the high jump, Monticello’s Kennadee Johnson and NG’s Annabelle Curl tied for second (4-8). NG’s Marie Besley and Mia Skidmore each reached 7-6 in the pole vault, finishing sixth and seventh. NG’s Gracie Atkinson won the long jump (17-6). Malaise won the triple jump (32-4). NG’s Reese Speth got third place in the shot put (33-6) and the discus (103-1).
