Green County Open: Monroe 6th, New Glarus 10th

MONROE — The Monroe Cheesemakers placed sixth and the New Glarus Glarner Knights were 10th at the Green County Open at Monroe Golf Course on Monday, May 18.

Monroe shot a 337 and New Glarus got a 348. Brodhead got a 382 to finish 14th and Monticello shot 388 and placed 15th. Monona Grove won the Green County Open with a 314 and junior Isaac Wiegman of Cuba City/Benton/Southwestern was the medalist with a 74.

For the Cheesemakers, senior Hans Brandt and junior Troy Spotts each fired an 83. Senior Brock Brandli had an 84. Senior Brody Koehn shot an 87 and senior Brady Stuart had an 89.

New Glarus had two leaders with senior Isaac Ingwell and junior Kofi Belknap each finishing with an 86. Sophomore Kellen Martinson shot an 85. Senior Grady Johnson finished with a 91 and freshman Braden Goodness had a 95.

Brodhead was led by senior Maddax McGinty, who shot an 89. Monticello/Belleville senior Cooper Nemec lead his team with a 93.

The teams all competed in their respective conference tournaments on Tuesday, May 19.

New Glarus Invitational

NEW GLARUS — The Monroe Cheesemakers finished in second place at the May 13 New Glarus Invitational. Monroe tallied a 337, five strokes back of Lancaster, who won the invitational with a 332. New Glarus was fourth with a 348. Argyle-Pecatonica was 10th (391), Monticello-Belleville 11th (412), and Brodhead 12th (424).

Monroe was led by Brody Koehn’s 80 and Brock Brandli’s 82. New Glarus was led by Isaac Ingwell and Kellen Martinson, each with an 83. Ingwell had a birdie and six pars and Martinson carded a birdie along with six pars. Kofi Belknap shot an 86 and had seven pars.

Capitol Conference Meet #6

The New Glarus Glarner Knights placed fifth with a 168 at Capitol Conference Meet #6 that was hosted by New Glarus at Edelweiss Golf Course on Tuesday, May 12. Monticello-Belleville finished eighth (185). Lodi won the meet with a 165.

Kofi Belknap of New Glarus shot a 40 to take ninth place overall. Isaac Ingwell and Kellen Martinson each shot a 41 and tied for 13th place. Grady Johnson had a 46 and Braden Goodness fired a 50.

New Glarus was in a seventh place tie and would have lost the tiebreaker until Ingwell birdied his last hole, which jumped New Glarus solely into fifth place.

“I was really proud of how our guys played particularly off the tee and around the greens,” said New Glarus coach Jonathan Goodness. “Our players are making good decisions and are able to shrug off mistakes and bigger numbers. If we can get to the point where no one on the team cards anything larger than a bogey, I know we will be very competitive.”
