DELAVAN — The Delavan-Darien Comets scored three runs in the third inning and followed that up with a seven-run fourth to down the Monroe Cheesemakers 11-1 in five innings in a Rock Valley Conference baseball game on Tuesday, May 19.
The Cheesemakers’ offense could only produce one run on five hits. Their lone run came in the fourth inning when Zane Seffrood led off the inning with a double. Gage Jelle came in as a courtesy runner for Seffrood and scored on a base hit by Ian Berg.
Marcus Ott started in center field and got on base twice with a hit and a walk. Trent Wyss and Blake Geisler also had base hits for the Cheesemakers.
Monroe (6-15-1, 4-9 RVC-Valley) was scheduled to face the Comets again in an RVC-Valley game on Thursday, May 21 at ABC Supply Stadium in Beloit.
Monroe received an 11-seed in the WIAA Division 2 regionals will open the playoffs on May 28 with a game against six-seed Edgewood at DeForest’s Ziggy Park. If the Cheesemakers can pull off the first round upset, they would get either three-seed Lodi or 14-seed Brodhead-Juda on June 2.
Columbus 14, Brodhead-Juda 4
Sam Searls hit a third inning grand slam, but it accounted for the only scoring in the game for Brodhead-Juda in a loss to Columbus 14-4 on Monday, May 18 at Brodhead.
Searls’ slam tied the game at 4-4 after Columbus had taken a 4-0 lead. Manny Bueno went 3x4, but the rest of Brodhead-Juda’s lineup produced only three hits.
Brodhead-Juda (6-15) had a conference game scheduled on Tuesday, May 19 against the Clinton Cougars.
Brodhead-Juda is the 14-seed in its regional and will travel to Lodi on May 28 for the first round of the WIAA Division 2 playoffs.
Monticello-Albany 17, Orangeville 9
Hunter Grossen and Brodyn Bakken each drove in three runs and Tyler Constantini went 3x6 with a double and a triple to lead the Monticello-Albany Space Stallions past the Orangeville Broncos 17-9 in nonconference baseball on Monday, May 18.
Orangeville scored six runs in the fifth inning, but the Space Stallions charged back with five runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-7 lead, then scored eight runs in the seventh to run away with the win.
Monticello-Albany (4-15) returned to Six Rivers Conference action with a game scheduled on Tuesday, May 19 at Albany against the Highland Cardinals.
The Space Stallions received a six-seed in the WIAA Division 4 playoffs and will host 11-seed Fall River on May 28.
Baraboo 13, Belleville 1
The Baraboo Thunderbirds scored seven runs in the first inning to set themselves up for a 13-1 win over the Belleville Wildcats in nonconference action in the first game of the Baraboo Triangular on Saturday, May 16.
The Wildcats scored their only run in the second inning when Wesley Henry singled and Austin McKinley drove him in with a double to center field.
West Salem 7, Belleville 1
The Belleville Wildcats got just one run on four hits and lost to West Salem 7-1 in the second game of the Baraboo Triangular.
West Salem got out to a 4-0 lead in the fifth inning. Belleville’s Owen Griffin got on with a base hit in the fifth and scored on Gavan Crum’s RBI single.
Belleville (8-12) returned to Capitol South Conference play with a game at New Glarus on Tuesday, May 19.
The two teams will then face off May 28 in the opening round of the WIAA Division 3 playoffs. New Glarus, the six-seed, will host the 11th-seeded Wildcats. The winner will take on three-seed Fennimore on June 2.
New Glarus 22, Markesan 8
Nolan Julseth went 3x5 with a home run and three RBIs to power the New Glarus Glarner Knights to a 22-8 thrashing of the Markesan Hornets in the Pecatonica Triangular at Blanchardville on Saturday May 16. Ashlin Mihlbauer hit a double and had five RBIs and Kamm Nehmer drove in three runs to lead the Glarner Knights.
Pecatonica 11, Markesan 4
The Pecatonica Vikings scored seven runs in the sixth inning to overtake Markesan in the Pecatonica Triangular on May 16. The top of the order for Pecatonica — Ashton McNett, Austin Enloe, and Reid Schlimgen — went a combined 4x10 with three RBIs and five runs scored.
Pecatonica 8, New Glarus 5
Marty Anderson doubled and drove in a pair of runs and Kashton Gross had two RBIs to lead the Pecatonica Vikings to an 8-5 win over the New Glarus Glarner Knights in the Pecatonica Triangular on May 16.
Ashton McNett and Reid Schlimgen each scored two runs for the Knights. Ethan Colstad got a hit, a walk, an RBI, and scored a run for New Glarus.
Pecatonica improved to 9-6 with the win and hosted Shullsburg-Benton in Six Rivers Conference game on Tuesday, May 19. The Vikings received a three-seed in the WIAA Division 4 playoff bracket and have a first round bye. Pecatonica will host either 11-seed Fall River or six-seed Monticello-Albany on June 2. The winner will get either two-seed Palmyra-Eagle, 10-seed Rio or seven-seed Heritage Christian. Pecatonica is also the host of the sectional, which will take place June 9.
New Glarus fell to 8-9-1 and hosted rival Belleville in a Capitol South Conference game on Tuesday, May 19.
Pecatonica 4, Shullsburg-Benton 0
Austin Enloe struck 12 batters and drove in a run as the Pecatonica Vikings shut out Shullsburg-Benton 4-0 in Six Rivers baseball on Tuesday, May 19.
Reed Cassidy got a hit and scored two runs for Pecatonica. Reid Schlimgen and Luke Leonard also drove in runs for the Vikings.
Pecatonica (11-8, 8-6) traveled to Potosi-Cassville for a Six Rivers game against the Chieftains scheduled on Friday, May 22.
Brodhead-Juda 13, Clinton 3
Manny Bueno went 3x3, drove in two runs and scored two runs to help the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals take a 13-3 win over the Clinton Cougars in five innings in Rock Valley baseball on Tuesday, May 19 at ABC Supply Stadium in Beloit. Dylan Ross was 2x3 with a double and two RBIs and Sam Searls was 2x4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Searls also pitched five innings and allowed three runs on two hits two walks, and eight strikeouts for the Cardinals.
Brodhead-Juda (7-15, 5-9 RVC-Rock) was scheduled to play the Cougars again at Clinton on May 21.
Highland 5, Monticello-Albany 4
Monticello-Albany 10, Highland 2
The Highland Cardinals upended the Monticello-Albany Space Stallions 5-4 in the first game of a Six Rivers doubleheader on Tuesday, May 19. Tyler Patchen, Hunter Grossen, and Cayden Marti each drove in runs for the Space Stallions, but a seventh inning rally fell short.
In the second game, Patchen pitched a complete game no-hitter to lead MA to a 10-2 win.
Patchen walked four and struck out 10 as Highland scored unearned runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Tyler Constantini went 2x4 with three RBIs and three runs scored for the Space Stallions.
Monticello-Albany (5-16, 4-11) traveled to River Ridge to face the Timberwolves in a Six Rivers game scheduled on Thursday, May 21.
Fennimore 6, Darlington 3
The Fennimore Golden Eagles got out to a 6-0 lead before the Darlington Redbirds could get on the board and beat the Redbirds 6-3 in SWAL conference action on Tuesday, May 19.
The Redbirds’ offense came to life in the sixth inning on back-to-back doubles by Landon Edgerton and Zeke Zuberbuhler and a base hit by Grady O’Brien to score two runs. The Redbirds got another run in the bottom of the seventh as Tag Goebel scored on a ground out.
Darlington (6-8, 4-8) traveled to Muscoda for a SWAL game scheduled on Thursday, May 21 against Riverdale.
New Glarus 6, Belleville 2
Shortstop Nolan Julseth and centerfielder Kamm Nehmer each drove in two runs and Brock Roth went 3x4 to give the New Glarus Glarner Knights a 6-2 win over the Belleville Wildcats in a Capitol South game Tuesday, May 19.
Gavan Crum and Randy Raven got RBIs for the only scoring in the game for the Wildcats. New Glarus (10-8, 5-4) and Belleville (8-13, 2-7) met again on May 21 in a Capitol South game. New Glarus also had a nonconference game scheduled at home against Poynette on May 22.
