MONROE — The Cheesemakers lost to No. 3 ranked Edgewood 6-1 on Tuesday, May 19, one day after coming short 4-3 against No. 9-ranked Madison Country Day. Against Edgewood, Travis Saunders and Graysan Bartholf got the Cheesemakers’ lone win at No. 2 doubles which should secure them as the No. 1 seed in the subsectional at No. 2 doubles.

“We didn’t get the team win, but saw some really promising things,” said Monroe head coach Matt Bordner. “(Against Country Day) we picked up big wins from #2 doubles, #3 doubles, and also Sam Roidt at #4 singles. Moving Eli (Salzwedel) to doubles with Michael (Henning) has been a really solid switch, and Sam has been an absolute rock for us in the singles lineup and remains undefeated on the season.

“I think we’re playing our best tennis at the end of the season right now and so I’m excited to see how we do in the next week.”

Monroe closes the regular season 12-8. The Rock Valley Conference tournament was scheduled for May 21, with subsectionals Tuesday, May 26 at Portage.
