MONROE — The Monroe Cheesemakers were looking to generate some offense as they were taking on the Beloit Memorial Purple Knights in nonconference soccer at T.R. Holyoke Pitch on Thursday, May 21, but the Cheesemakers were shut out once again, 3-0.
The loss drops the Cheesemakers to 1-9-1 overall. Monroe has two nonconference matches remaining in the regular season. They travel to Mazomanie to face Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld on Tuesday, May 26, then close out the regular season at home against Reedsburg on Thursday, May 28.
Sugar River 2, Delavan-Darien 0
The Raiders continued their strong season with a 2-0 win over Delavan-Darien in a nonconference game May 21.
Ellie Brenkman scored one in each half for Sugar River, with Kate Parman and Maya Crennell notching assists. Savanah Minter had six saves in goal.
The nonconference game pinned two top sectional opponents against each other, as Sugar River is second behind McFarland in the Bound Sectional Power Rankings and Delavan-Darien third. Sugar River will host Monroe in a regional semifinal at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 4. Delavan-Darien is the three-seed, and a rematch with Sugar River could come on June 11 in a sectional semifinal. McFarland, the top seed, will host the sectional final on Saturday, June 13.
