Capitol Conference meet prepares area athletes for regionals, sectionals

WAUPUN — The Capitol Conference held its boys and girls track and field championship at Waupun on Tuesday, May 19. Lakeside Lutheran won the boys meet with 118 points and they won the girls meet with 140.5 points. In the boys meet, New Glarus was fifth with 68 points and Belleville was 12th with 20.5 points. On the girls side, New Glarus finished fourth with 81 points and Belleville was 10th with 21 points.

In the boys events, sophomore Jesse Luchsinger of Belleville was fourth in the 100 meter dash in11.48 seconds. Luchsinger also placed second in the 200 meter dash in 23.48 seconds. In the 3,200 meter run, junior Dylan Gardner placed fifth (11:07.21). Junior Tucker Sysko of New Glarus won the high jump (6-2). New Glarus senior Ethan Seffrood was sixth in the triple jump (39-0.5). NG junior Brent Weeden won the shot put (59-10) and was third in the discus (146-9).

The girls meet had NG freshman Kennedy Sysko placing fifth in the 100 meter dash (13.64). In the 200, Belleville freshman Braxtyn Ayers was fourth (28.26). Belleville freshman Adelyn Skrede was fifth in the 800 (2:42.60). Wildcat Olivia Fox was sixth in the 1,600 meter (6:02.43). NG sophomore Mya Clark was eighth in the 3,200 (14:21.48).

The 100 meter hurdles had three runners from the area place in the top ten. Marie Besley was third(16.55), Clara Winden seventh (18.10) and Molly Shares ninth (18.58). Winden was 10th in the 300 meter (55.61).

The Glarner Knights won the 4x100 meter relay (51.25) behind the team of senior Gracie Atkinson, Besley, junior Kalie Malaise, and sophomore Vivian Lancaster. NG sophomore Annabelle Curl tied for second place in the high jump (4-6). Atkinson won the triple jump (35-8) with Malaise third (32-6.5). Atkinson also won the long jump (17-3.25). Braxtyn Ayres of Belleville was third with a long jump of 15 feet, 11 inches.

Marie Besley of New Glarus was second in the pole vault (8-0). Junior Reese Speth got sixth in both the discus (103-4) and the shot put (32-11).
