MHS drops two; Raiders host Swiss Kick

MONROE — Big Foot/Williams Bay defeated the Monroe Cheesemakers 7-0 in Rock Valley Conference girls soccer on Thursday, May 14.

The Cheesemakers had three shots on goal while senior Kennedy Voegeli had eight saves on the night.

Monroe hosted Dodgeville-Mineral Point in nonconference action on Saturday, May 16, and lost 3-0. The Cheesemakers (1-7-1, 1-4-1 Rock Valley) fell behind early, but kept Dodge-Point scoreless for the final 50 minutes of the game.

“We had opportunities to score but just couldn’t find the back of the net,” said coach Samantha Rudi.

Monroe had a match on the road at Edgerton in Rock Valley action on Tuesday, May 19 and will host Beloit Memorial in a nonconference game on Thursday, May 21.

Sugar River Swiss Kick

The Sugar River Raiders held its 21st annual Swiss Kick in New Glarus on Saturday, May 16, as all three schools battled above-averaged temperatures.

In the first game, the Raiders defeated Fort Atkinson 1-0, with Nikole Schultz scoring in the 46th minute off a pass from Holly Maynard. Savanah Minter had three saves for Sugar River.

Fort Atkinson then lost to Kenosha Tremper 3-0 in just one half of play. The Blackhawks ran out of substitutes and opted not to play the second half in the heat.

In the championship, Tremper defeated Sugar River 3-0.

The Raiders swept the JV tournament, beating both Fort Atkinson and Temper by a score of 4-1.

Sugar River 7, Columbus 0

The Raiders scored six second half goals to put away the Cardinals in a Capitol South road game May 15.

Nikole Schultz scored just 28 seconds into the game on a pass from Ella Woodmansee. Neither team scored over the next 39-plus minutes of action.

In the second half, the Raiders erupted for six goals, four of which were assisted. Toria Devoe had two goals and an assist. Kate Parman added two three goals. Libby Iserloth also had a goal. Alivia Lamb, Ellie Brenkman, and Sophie Vasquez added assists.

Minter faced zero shots in net over 56 minutes of play, and backup Sydney Ohms had one save in 23 minutes.
