MONROE - District Administrator Cory Hirsbrunner plans to resign from her position with the Monroe school district when her contract ends June 30.

Hirsbrunner, who has worked for the district for about 25 years, presented her letter of resignation to the school board Monday. In the letter, she said it's time for her "to pursue new career challenges."

"Cory, you have every right to be proud of your accomplishments here ... and I certainly wish you the very best of luck," said board member Les Bieneman.

Hirsbrunner wiped tears from her eyes as board members thanked her for her service.

She started as a student teacher in Monroe, making her way to teacher, building principal and director of curriculum and instruction, among other positions. She was promoted to district administrator in 2012.

Hirsbrunner said she doesn't have a new position lined up yet.

Notifying the board of her resignation almost a year before her contract ends will allow the district to get through the referendum process and leave enough time for the board to find her replacement, she said in the letter.
