The recent Republican mid-term convention was yet another example by the president and his cronies of diverting the attention of the American people from Trump’s disastrous policies. With fuel prices soaring due to Trump’s invasion of Iran and with the economy struggling in large part due to tariffs that defy sound economic principles, Trump did what he does best. He lies, blames others, and makes more promises that will not be kept. Does anyone really believe that a check for $5000.00 will magically arrive in their mailbox after November? Or that it would not add to the inflation we are already experiencing? Or, that somehow, Ukraine is the reason for high diesel prices? I doubt that too many people buy these fabrications.
It will be interesting to see how Americans respond at the ballot box in November. I am hopeful that people are seeing the Trump show for what it is — an unreality show that must not continue.
Clearly, no party ever has all the answers — which is why we need a balance of good ideas. Unfortunately, the Republican party has done virtually nothing to help the average American for a long time. Until Republicans in Congress stop being cowed by the man in the Whitehouse, it is the Democrats who have the ideas that will benefit a majority of Americans. These include affordable health care, immigration that works and an economy that supports hard working men and women. It is also the Democrats who would take on the rampant corruption that permeates Washington.
Trump makes no excuses for the enormous fortune that he has garnered by “insider trading” and other manipulations of the market. He is obsessed with money, power and convincing the world that he won in 2020 despite the mountain of evidence to the contrary. No representative should allow this behavior to go unchallenged, but Republicans do so daily.
In our own state, we have many important races coming up starting with the gubernatorial race. On that score one need only examine Tom Tiffany’s voting record to conclude what a disaster he would be as our governor. An election denier with Trump’s endorsement says it all. His record clearly shows what he stands for, but you won’t find that out from his website which he scrubbed before declaring his candidacy. His record, however, is not hard to find and it has hurt Wisconsin. The website tiffanyfacts.com is one source of information. Integrity and character must prevail over party, and Tiffany fails miserably on all counts.
That is why it is so important that people vote in November. It may take additional effort this time for your vote to count, but it is so critical. Before election day, make sure you are registered. Then, do what is necessary to make that vote count. With the shenanigans going on at the postal service, that may mean standing in line to vote. Find out your options early. Never has your vote been more crucial.
