City gives updates on road projects
monroe street work projects 2025

MONROE — City of Monroe Director of Public Works Al Gerber this week gave a project update for 31st and 32nd Avenue.

“Work on 32nd Avenue has progressed smoothly.  H. James is complete with the sanitary sewer and they are about 95% complete with the water main and 80% complete with the storm sewer construction,” Gerber said.

This week workers began on the water main installation on 31st Avenue, starting at 11th Street and moving north to 8 1/2 Street next to Northside Elementary School.

“They will be working on water main for the next two weeks as well as finishing the water and storm sewer work on 32nd Avenue when the additional pipe and fire hydrants are delivered,” Gerber said. “Currently, they are anticipating to start Sanitary Sewer work on 31st Avenue during the Week of September 29th and Storm sewer work the week of October 7th. They are anticipating bringing in a second crew at the end of September to begin grading the 32nd Avenue section for curb and gutter and pavement.”

Traffic on 32nd Avenue has been shut down for more than a month as crews re-route and widen the street’s path. No traffic can safely pass through during construction. Traffic on 31st Avenue is limited to construction equipment for the new high school campus and for residents that live on the street.

Elsewhere in the city, stripping and repaving of the 4th Avenue West subdivision south of 21st Street also began this week. The project is expected to be completed by about Oct. 2.

Access to homes in the project area will remain open, except for two days during paving. When that date is set, residents will receive notice, and doors will be posted.
