Thank You to Local Businesses and Mentors
Cara Carper

Monroe High School is so fortunate to have businesses and individuals that support us. Without business and business mentor support, we could not provide all of the incredible opportunities for our students to explore potential careers through work, real-world projects, job shadows and mock interviews.

As we approach the time of Thanksgiving, we want to express our gratitude to all who support students as we prepare them for life after graduation.

Thanks to Youth Apprenticeship Business Mentors

We currently have 41 Monroe High School students hired as Youth Apprentices at 33 businesses. We have listed businesses in alphabetical order and included the career pathway they are providing. Please join us to thank them for their commitment to our students and our community.

Each one of these businesses is supporting our students with a mentor/supervisor. We are so thankful for those mentors! Mentors are teaching our students new skills, answering their questions, and providing many opportunities for students to better understand the business and the industry. They are also teaching the importance of soft skills like communication, critical thinking and problem-solving.

Thanks to LAUNCH Business Mentors

Thank you to the businesses that submitted their real-world projects for our LAUNCH students to tackle. These projects provide students the opportunity to deeply explore professional areas of interest through project-based experiences.

Teams of 3-4 students are currently working with project coaches and their teachers on 15 different projects this trimester. Coaches meet with students for about an hour a week to point our students in the right direction, help them structure their efforts productively, and provide them with the feedback they need to produce the best results.

Thank you to the following organizations that are working with our LAUNCH students this trimester:

Behavioral Health

●  Aster Assisted Living

●  Better Brodhead

●  Green County Human Services Behavioral Health Department

Business Analytics

●  Better Brodhead

●  Colony Brands

●  Green County Land and Water Conservation Department

Media Solutions

●  Big Brothers Big Sisters of Green County

●  Equine Empowerment, Inc

●  Molinaro Dairy Queen

●  Stateline Vision Center

Skilled Building Trades

●  Green County Development Corporation

●  SSM Health Monroe Hospital

If you are interested in attending LAUNCH student presentations about these projects, we will be hosting a LAUNCH Showcase on Friday, December 15.

Thanks to Job Shadow Leaders and Mock Interviewers

All Monroe High School juniors, as part of their English 11 class, are now required to explore careers, do a job shadow, create a resume and cover letter, and participate in a mock interview. That means that over the school year, more than 150 students will be reaching out to local businesses to inquire about allowing them to shadow an employee for four to eight hours. The goal of a job shadow is to help students gain a better understanding of a day in the life of a business and career.

As part of the career exploration experience, we will also be conducting more than 150 student interviews. Thank you to all the individuals who have signed up to test students’ interview skills. The interview experience only requires about an hour of time, with great benefits for our students.

If you are interested in supporting Monroe High School with jobs for students, LAUNCH projects, a job shadow opportunity, or as an interviewer, please contact me at caracarper@monroe.k12.wi.us or (608) 328-7573. Thank you for your assistance!
