Barb Keegan New Monroe Girls Basketball Head Coach

MONROE — Monroe High School has hired a new girls basketball coach for the 2026-2027 baseball season. According to Athletic Director Eric Jubeck, Barb Keegan is returning to the sidelines, bringing many years of basketball coaching experience to the Monroe girls program.

Keegan has coached basketball for over 20 years at the high school level. She started her career at Palmyra-Eagle High School and later coached at Argyle High School. After that, she joined the Monroe school district as both a JV and varsity assistant coach, including in Monroe from 1996 to 2015 under head coaches Kevin Keen and Sam Mathiason.

Keegan has also run the Monroe summer basketball league for many years and is a distinguished official.

“I am very excited to get back into coaching after taking some time away to focus on my family. Now feels like the perfect time to share my love for a sport that has been part of my life since I was old enough to dribble a basketball. I look forward to teaching the girls not only skills and strategy, but also heart, confidence, and the desire to be their best both on and off the court,” said Keegan.

Keegan becomes only the fourth girls head basketball coach at Monroe since 1989. She succeeds Patrick Kenny, who coached the Cheesemakers for six seasons. Keen coached the Cheesemakers for 21 years and Mathiason was Monroe’s coach for 10 years
