Hedwig “Hedy” Swiggum, age 102 passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born on July 20, 1923 the daughter of Fred and Rosalie (Leibundgut) Ingold. Hedy graduated from Monroe High School in 1941. On June 9, 1943 Hedy was united in marriage to Glen Swiggum at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Monroe.
Hedy worked as the secretary for the Badger-Brodhead Cheese Co. and Kraft Foods in Monroe until Glen returned from the service. She then devoted herself to raising their four children and creating a home for her family. In the late 70’s Hedy joined Glen in the family business, Swiggum’s Beverage Depot where they worked together until the business was sold in 1985.
She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, and looked forward to completing the daily newspaper puzzles. An avid sports fan, she followed Wisconsin Badger football and basketball, the Green Bay Packers, and the Milwaukee Brewers. She also took great pride in watching her son and grandsons participate in sports from grade school through college. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and attending the many activities and events involving all her children and grandchildren.
Hedy was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School and sang in the Church choir. She was also the church librarian for 15 years as well as being a member of the Church Council. Hedy participated in numerous organizations throughout the years, including the Monroe Woman’s Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, the Green County Historical Society, and New Glarus/New World Swiss.
Hedy is survived by her children, Donna (John) Glynn of Monroe, Richard (Teresa) Swiggum of Mesa, AZ, Mary (Matthew) Salas of Denver, CO, Carol (Greg) Isermann of Clark Fork, ID; grandchildren, Kasey Glynn, Megan (Sean) de Courcy, Lee Swiggum, Hattie (Rob) Divine, Zachary (Rhys Conly) Salas; step-grandchildren, Erin Isermann, Erica Isermann, and Greg (Molly) Isermann; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, Charles (Ruth) Ingold of Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen; and sisters, Clara Montgomery, Helen Stuart, and Dorothy Goecks.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s United Church of Christ with Reverend Christina Schoenwetter officiating. A private family burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
