SHULLSBURG — Shortstop Kylie Butler got two hits and drove in four runs to help the Argyle-Black Hawk Orioles get a 10-0 win over Benton-Shullsburg in Six Rivers conference softball on Friday May 8.
Butler had a double in the 1st inning that drove in two runs and hit a triple with the bases loaded in the 7th inning that went for two RBIs plus another runner scored and Butler scored on an error.
Claire Holmes got a hit and scored two runs for the Orioles.
Brynn Harris pitched a complete game shutout and allowed just two hits for the Orioles. Argyle-Black Hawk was helped by 10 errors committed by Benton-Shullsburg.
The Orioles had six hits, and Orioles coach Heidi Ganshert liked what she saw, but would also like to see the Orioles get more timely hitting. “I would prefer to be hitting just a little bit better, but I thought we fielded very well and our pitcher (Brynn Harris) did a real good job today,” said Ganshert.
Argyle-Black Hawk (8-12, 5-8 Six Rivers) played at home against Potosi-Cassville in Six Rivers conference action on Monday May 11.
Argyle-Black Hawk 3, Potosi-Cassville 2 (15 innings)
The Argyle-Black Hawk Orioles won a marathon 3-2 in 15 innings over Potosi-Cassville in Six Rivers conference softball on Monday May 11.
The game went into extra innings with the scored tied at 1-1. What followed was eight additional innings of softball with Potosi-Cassville scoring one run in the top of the 15th and Argyle-Black Hawk winning it with two runs in the bottom of the 15th.
Adrionna Ubersox started the 15th for the Orioles with a base hit. Emma Johnsen came in as a courtesy runner for Ubersox. Johnsen stole second and Alexis Tregembo singled to center and Johnsen scored on an error to tie the game 2-2 with Tregembo advancing to second. After a walk to Brynn Harris, Macy Harris singled with Brynn Harris advancing to second and Tregembo advancing to third. Tregembo ended the marathon with a steal of home to give the Orioles a 3-2 win.
Harris pitched all 15 innings to get the win. She recorded 45 outs and threw 198 pitches, allowing two runs on seven hits, three walks, and 15 strikeouts.
Argyle-Black Hawk (9-12, 6-8 Six Rivers) played a Six Rivers conference game at highland on Tuesday May 12.
Fennimore 19, Darlington 1
The Fennimore Golden Eagles held a 3-1 lead over the Darlington Redbirds through three innings, then blasted off with 16 unanswered runs over the final two innings to coast over the Redbirds 19-1 in SWAL conference softball on Monday May 11.
Raynie Norgard got two hits and drove in the only run for the Redbirds in the 1st inning.
Darlington (4-12, 2-9) traveled to Muscoda to face the Riverdale Chieftains in SWAL conference action on Thursday May 14.
Barneveld 12, Monticello-New Glarus 0
The Barneveld Golden Eagles allowed the Monticello-New Glarus Ponies to get just four singles in a 12-0 shutout in Six Rivers conference softball on Monday May 11.
The Ponies had just six baserunners as Molly Olson, Annie Olson, Malorie Miller, and Mabel Jordan got base hits and Eliza Legris reached on a walk twice. It was the first time this season the Ponies had been shut out.
Monticello-New Glarus (13-4, 11-3) hosted the Belmont Braves in Six Rivers conference action on Tuesday May 12.
Belmont 8, Juda-Albany 6
The Panthers founds themselves down 5-0 and 8-2 and couldn’t come back against the Braves in an 8-6 loss on Monday May 11.
Jubany scored two runs in the 6th and three runs in the 7th, but it was a three-run 6th inning for the Braves to secure the win for Belmont and hand Jubany their second straight loss.
Olivia Brooks was 2x4 with two RBIs and Emerson Briggs got a hit, a walk, an RBI, and a run scored to lead Jubany.
Juda-Albany (14-5-1, 10-5) hosted Benton-Shullsburg in a Six Rivers conference game on Tuesday May 12.
River Ridge 6, Pecatonica 0
Erin Adrian of River Ridge shut down the Pecatonica Vikings on two hits in a 6-0 win for the Timberwolves over the Vikings on Monday May 11.
Adrian was working on a no-hitter until Katelynne Jorenby and Gretta Schraepfer got the only hits for the Vikings in the 7th inning.
Pecatonica (2-12, 2-10) had a Six Rivers conference game at home against Barneveld on Tuesday May 12.
Belmont Tournament, May 9
The Brodhead Cardinals picked up two wins by beating Fennimore 2-0 and Cuba City 8-2 at the Belmont Tournament on Saturday May 9.
Against Fennimore, the Cardinals got just three hits, but Elise Rear hit a triple and Mady Henning and Keegan Steinke each drove in a run to give the Cardinals all the runs they needed. Henning pitched a gem, allowing just four hits with a walk and six strikeouts in getting a shutout win.
In the win over Cuba City, Steinke was 3x4 with a home run and four RBIs. Elise Rear also hit a home run for the Cardinals. Rear and Mady Henning combined to hold Cuba City to two runs, one earned. Rear and Henning scattered 10 hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
Brodhead (11-4-1) had Rock Valley conference games at Big Foot on Tuesday May 12 and at home against Edgerton on Thursday May 14.
