The 20th annual Six Rivers Conference All-Star basketball classic was held at Juda High School on Friday, June 19 and raised $2,005 to benefit UW American Family Children’s Hospital. The Six Rivers East girls team, coached by Kaylee Flanagan of Black Hawk, defeated the Six Rivers West girls team, coached by Nathan Russell of Shullsburg, 67-42.

Kylie Butler of Argyle-Pecatonica hit a couple of threes to get the East off to a 26-7 lead with 7:04 left in the first half. Emerson Briggs of Albany-Monticello dialed up a three and scored on a driving layup to give the East a 39-11 halftime lead. Butler finished with 17 points to lead the East, while Lillie Cooley of Potosi-Cassville scored 15 points. Ries Stluka of Benton scored eight points, and Izabel Durst of Barneveld also had six.

The boys game finished with a rarity; a 77-77 tie game.

The first half ended with Jayden Brown of Juda making a three-pointer and Brock Bunge of River Ridge answering with a three-pointer as the East, coached by Cole Mahlkuch of Juda, led the West, coached by Beau Buchs of Belmont, 41-36 at halftime. With just over 7:00 left, the game was tied 57-57. Brandon Davis of River Ridge made a pair of baskets to give the West a 61-57 advantage. Ty Thousand of Barneveld made a three and Hunter Larson of Barneveld scored a basket with 2:35 remaining to put the East in front 77-68. Davis made a three and Alex Friederick of Potosi-Cassville scored to tie the game at 77-77 with 4.1 seconds left.

After a time-out, the East tried a full-court in-bound pass that sailed out of bounds without anyone touching it, giving the West possession under their own basket with 4.1 seconds left. But, the West couldn’t get a game-winning shot to fall.

Davis led the West with 20 points. Logan Nethery of Shullsburg had 13 points for the West. Hunter Larson of Barneveld scored 29 points to lead the East.
