ARGYLE — The Orioles swept Monticello on Tuesday, Sept. 1 in a Six Rivers East matchup 25-22, 25-11, 26-24.

Brooke Wellnitz had 14 kills, 17 digs, two aces and a block, Brynn Harris added 14 digs and fives aces, Ellie Coffee notched 24 assists and six digs and Haleigh Fish tallied six kills and two aces for Argyle. Senior setter Avari Steiner was injured early in the first set, which pushed Coffee, a freshman, into action.

“She did a great job for being thrown in unexpectedly and not having much practice with it,” said Argyle coach Jen Butler. “The whole team did a great job working as a team to get through the lineup change.  We were down the third set I was very proud of how they didn’t give up and came back to finish the night in 3.  They all stepped up when they needed to.”

River Valley 3, Darlington 1

SPRING GREEN — The Redbirds lost a nonconference match 25-20, 10-25, 11-25, 20-25 on Sept. 1.

Lilly Ritchie led Darlington with eight kills, 13 assists and two blocks.

Mineral Point 3, New Glarus 0

NEW GLARUS — The Pointers, which reached state a year ago, picked up a nonconference win over the Glarner Knights on Sept. 1. The hosts didn’t go down without a fight, coach Kayla Zimmerman said.

“The second set was a marathon, running point for point to an extended set to 31,” she said.

Mineral Point came out with the overall victory 25-15, 31-29, 25-20. New Glarus was led in spike kills by Kate Parman (13) and Reese Montgomery (8).
