Shirley A. Erickson, age 97 of New Glarus formerly of Monroe passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at the New Glarus Home. She was born on July 25, 1929 the daughter of Robert and Laura (Buss) McConnell. She graduated from Darlington High School. After high school Shirley attended Platteville State Teachers College where she earned her teaching degree. On August 5, 1950 Shirley was united in marriage to Arlin Erickson in Darlington.
Shirley worked as an educator for many years. She taught in Monroe, later worked as a substitute teacher in Darlington, and eventually became a teacher’s aide in Monroe, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, Friends in Faith, Retired Educators, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Shirley enjoyed playing cards, various card games, and reading. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by 4 children, Gail (Mark) Bundner of Madison, Dr. Rodney (Ruth) Erickson of Tomah, Lori (Dennis) Holyoke of Monroe, and Eric (Debra) Erickson of Browntown; daughter-in-law, Penny Erickson; 16 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley McConnell; 10 great-grandchildren and two more on the way; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; son, Randy Erickson; great-grandson, Zakk Suthers; and brother, Bill McConnell.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 12:00 PM Noon at the Monroe United Methodist Church with Reverend Zach Bloom officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shgfuneralhome.net.
