Runners, jumpers, throwers keep getting better as season goes along

SOUTH WAYNE — Black Hawk High School hosted the Warrior Invitational boys and girls track meet on Thursday May 7 with Black Hawk winning the boys meet with 123.5 points. Cassville-Potosi took first place in girls with 164 points.

The top finishers from area schools included the 100 meter dash where freshman Wade Werren of Black Hawk was 2nd with a time of 12.08 seconds. In the 200 meter dash, Werren was 3rd in 24.79. In the 400 meter dash, senior Beckett Wachholz of Albany finished 4th in 56.31 seconds. Sophomore Landon Smith of Monroe won the 800 meter run in 2:06.67. The boys 1600 meter run is where senior Kaleb Broughton placed 2nd as he ran the track in 5:00.85. Sophomore Lucas Veeder of Monroe took 1st place in 3200 meter run 11:27.00.

The 110 meter hurdles went to senior Shane Wand of Black Hawk with a time of 16.43 seconds. Wand also captured the 300 meter hurdles in 42.80 seconds.

The Monroe Cheesemakers were the winners in the 4x100 meter throwers with the team of sophomore Carson Austin, sophomore Aadyn Edwards, sophomore Elliot Ballard, and freshman Joshua Hardenrider winning the relay in 49.70 seconds. Monroe also came in 1st place in the 4x100 meter relay with junior Landon Cassa, freshman Jacob Martin, junior Alex Rowe, and sophomore Kane Showers winning the relay in 48.18 seconds.

The Black Hawk Warriors were first place finishers in the 4x200 meter relay with senior Spencer Skattum, Shane Wand, freshman Bowen Wilson, and Wade Werren completing the relay in 1:37.03. Monroe got another 1st place finish in a relay as the 4x800 team won with sophomore Dylan Cook, junior Bryant Froseth, Landon Smith, and Lucas Veeder getting a time of 9:28.00.

In the field events, freshman Carter Stauffacher of Black Hawk won the high jump with a jump of five feet, eight inches. Senior Kamron Parker of Albany was the winner of the long jump as he reached 18 feet, 5.25 inches. The boys triple jump went to sophomore Ayden Slater of Argyle-Pecatonica as he soared 39 feet, 2.50 inches. Sophomore Tristan Anderson of Monroe topped everybody in the shot put with a toss of 47 feet, six inches. In the discus throw, sophomore Aiden Mosley of Black Hawk was the top area finisher as he placed 2nd with a throw of 111 feet, seven inches.

In the girls meet, senior Mya Milz was the top area finisher in the 100 meter dash as she placed 5th in 13.92 seconds. In the 200 meter dash, Milz was 4th with a time of 28.46 seconds. Milz did even better in the 400 meter dash as she finished 2nd in 1:04.00. Freshman Elizabeth Veeder of Monroe placed 2nd in the 800 meter run as she was clocked in 2:36.04. Freshman Ally Miller of Monroe was the best in the 1600 meter run in 6:28.46 and the 3200 meter run in 14:09.09.

The 110 meter hurdles was won by senior Loretta Tisch of Argyle-Pecatonica (17.20 seconds) and Tisch won the 300 meter hurdles in 49.17 seconds.

Argyle-Pecatonica captured the 4x100 meter relay throwers with junior Brooke Wellnitz, junior Aleah Harris, senior Scarlett Jacoby, and sophomore Calla Stateler taking the event in 1:01.49. The Monroe Cheesemakers had the top area relay team in the 4x100 meter relay with junior Serenity Williams, freshman Raygan Golackson, freshman Kinlee Thoman, and sophomore Abigail Hendroff taking 2nd place in 58.91. Argyle-Pecatonica took 2nd place in the 4x200 meter relay with junior Oliva Anderson, junior Chloe Clark, junior Dalaney Fisher, and sophomore Isla Jorenby putting together a time of 2:02.58.

Argyle-Pecatonica came in 3rd in the 4x800 meter relay with senior Mazie Theorin, freshman Emma Johnsen, junior Sophie Howard, and junior Avery Webster making it around the track in 12.00.65.

Senior Kenadee Johnson put Monticello on the board by winning the high jump with a jump of four feet, eight inches. Junior Aleah Harris of Argyle-Pecatonica won the long jump with a jump of 15 feet, 11 inches. In the triple jump, sophomore Makayla Curran of Black Hawk placed 2nd by reaching 33 feet, three inches. In the shot put, junior Brooke Wellnitz came in 2nd with a toss of 31 feet, 11 inches. Aleah Harris of Argyle-Pecatonica was 3rd in the discus throw as she sent the discus 89 feet, 11 inches.

Edgerton Tider Invite

EDGERTON — The Monroe boys and girls track teams won the Edgerton Tider Invitational track meet on Friday May 8.

The Monroe Cheesemaker boys won the meet with 160 points and the Monroe Cheesemaker girls won with 156 points.

Junior Lukas Gerber won the 400 meter run with a time of 53.31 seconds. In the 800 meter run, senior Tre Dammen was 1st with a time of 1:58.10 and junior Kamrin Gerber-Reamer was 2nd with his time at 1:58.20. Senior Brady Keehn finished 7th in the 1600 meters at 5:05.92. Freshman Ace Rossing led the Cheesemakers in the 3200 meter run by taking 1st place in 10:11.89.

Senior Will Keehn placed 4th in the 110 meter hurdles with a time 16.09 seconds. Sophomore Killian Wild was 6th in the 110 meters in 16.76 seconds. In the 300 meter hurdles, Keehn was 2nd (41.23 seconds) and senior Frank Wolf placed 4th (42.05 seconds).

The Cheesemakers picked up eight points in the 4x100 meter relay with Riley Blum, Jy’Shon Broitzman, Mekhi Brown, and Noah Spotts taking 2nd place in 43.87 seconds. Broitzman, Blum, Brown, and Spotts ran the 4x200 meter relay for the Cheesemakers and placed 2nd with a time of 1:31.02. The Cheesemakers’ 4x400 meter relay team of Broitzman, Gerber-Reamer, Eli Phillips, and Spotts took 1st place in 3:28.64. Another 1st place went to the Cheesemakers for their run in the 4x800 meter relay as Gerber, Elijah Cook, Landon Smith, and Eli Phillips completed the relay in 8:41.73.

The Cheesemakers also did well in the field events as senior Waylon Yoder won the shot put with a toss of 57 feet, 5.5 inches. Senior Peyton Herbst was 2nd with a toss of 49 feet, .5 inches. Sophomore Joah Wellman also figured into the scoring for the shot put by finishing 4th with a toss of 47 feet, eight inches. Monroe’s Waylon Yoder, a senior, won the discus with a throw of 169 feet, nine inches. Junior Tristan Anderson was 3rd with a throw of 146 feet, nine inches.

Frank Wolf placed 5th in the high jump as he cleared five feet, eight inches. He also placed 4th in the triple jump at 40 feet, 2.25 inches. Senior Kingston McNett was 7th in the pole vault as he was successful in clearing 10 feet. Junior Eli Phillips came in 4th place in the long jump with a jump of 20 feet, 1.25 inches.

The results of the Monroe girls team found freshman Micki Andrews taking 7th place in the 100 meter dash in 13.54 seconds. In the 200 meter dash, senior Mya Wild was 5th (27.93 seconds) and Andrews was 6th (28.15 seconds). Wild won the 400 meters by circling the track in 1:01.82 seconds. Junior Nevaeh Huenefeld was 2nd in the 800 meter run (2:29.33) while junior Victoria Wolf took 5th in 2:36.08. Sophomore Alivia Mosher placed 5th in the 1600 meter run (5:40.15) while sophomore Kaylen Cassidy got 7th place (5:50.33). The Cheesemakers captured 1st place and 2nd place in the 3200 meter run with freshman Elizabeth Veeder taking first (12:46.43) and junior Lyla Ritschard taking second (12:46.51).

The 100 meter hurdles went to senior Brooke Bunker of Monroe with a time of 17.86 seconds. Bunker placed 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 53.47 seconds.

Monroe’s 4x100 meter relay team of Althea Sweeney, Holly Carpenter, Alexis Elgin, and Maya Eddy placed 5th (57.01 seconds). The 4x400 meter relay team of Micki Andrews, Victoria Wolf, Miley Hanson, and Nevaeh Huenefeld placed 4th with a time of 4:35.02. The Cheesemakers came out on top in the 4x800 meter relay as Elizabeth Veeder, Ally Miller, Anna Zentner, and Lyla Ritschard won it in 10:17.25.

Micki Andrews of Monroe took 1st place in the shot put with a toss of 33 feet, nine inches. Freshman Mallory Pallesen was 4th with a toss of 29 feet, 8.5 inches. Pallesen was 6th in the discus with a throw of 87 feet, five inches.

Junior Braylee Friedrich earned a first-place finish in the high jump as she cleared 4 feet, 10 inches. In the pole vault, senior Anna Zentner was 3rd (nine feet) and freshman Alexa Altmann was 4th (seven feet, six inches). Sophomore Althea Sweeney took 5th place in the long jump (14 feet, seven inches) and senior Miley Hanson got 2nd place in the triple jump at 34 feet, 4.5 inches. Braylee Friedrich placed 4th with a jump of 32 feet, three inches.

Beloit Invitational

BELOIT — The Brodhead-Juda boys track team placed 2nd at the Beloit Invitational track meet with 143.5 points and the Brodhead-Juda girls team was 3rd with 96.5 points on Friday May 8.

In boys, Grayson Arn led the Cardinals with a first place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 11.00 seconds and in the 200 meters with a time of 22.96 seconds. Mavrik Plummer won the 400 meter dash in 50.42 seconds and 800 meters in 1:56.78. Franco Ramirez finished 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles in 17.96 seconds.

The Cardinals were winners of the 4x100 meter relay with the team of Arn, Nolan Bump, Tegan Pinnow, and Cohen Henze compiling a time of 43.73 seconds. The 4x100 Throwers Relay went to Jordan Dix, Marvin Paniaqua, Logan Berzinski, and Bryce Mcintosh with a time of 50.41 seconds.

The Cardinals finished in first place in the 4x400 relay with relay team of Plummer, Bump, Jorge Villalva, and Aiden Walker completing the relay in 3:31.97.

Jordan Dix took 4th place in the shot put at 41 feet, 9.5 inches. Dix also placed 6th in the discus with a heave 109 feet. Tegan Pinnow was 2nd in the high jump as he reached six feet, two inches. Simon Moore won the pole vault with a vault of 12 feet, six inches.

The girls competition had Ella Olson getting 3rd place in the 100 meters in 13.80 seconds. Gracie Hefty was 2nd in the 200 meters in 28.25 seconds. Hayden Lewis-Usher came in 3rd in the 400 meters with a time of 1:07.12. In the 800 meters, Ciarrah Condon was 7th with her time clocked at 2:44.73. Rachel Hatter took 3rd place in the 1600 meters with a time of 6:18.21. Elliana Shank took 2nd place in the 100 meter hurdles in 15.94.

Emberly Ast finished in 5th place in the 300 meter hurdles in 54.63 seconds. The Cardinals got a 3rd place finish in the 4x100 meter relay with Shank, Hefty, Olson, and Macy Gretebeck timed at 51.98 seconds. The 4x200 meter relay had the Cardinals’ team of Kennedi Lerch, Chesney Walker, Abby Withrow and Taiya Hawkins get 4th place in 1:58.70.

Annelise Bethke won the discus with a throw of 100 feet, two inches. Elliana Shank was 7th in the pole vault (eight feet) and Lillian Sievers was 8th (seven feet, six inches). Shank won the long jump with a successful jump of 17 feet, 2.75 inches.

Monticello girls also competed at the meet and finished in 10th place with nine points. Mirielle Smith was 5th in the 1600 meters in 6:24.75 and she was 4th in the 3200 meters with a time of 13:52.45.

Deerfield Varsity Classic

DEERFIELD — Five area teams competed in the Deerfield Varsity Classic Track Meet on Friday May 8. In boys, Omro won the meet with 103.33 points. Other results:

Brent Weeden of New Glarus took 1st place in the shot put with a toss of 56 feet, five inches. Tucker Sysko of New Glarus was 2nd in the high jump with a jump of six feet. Zeke Zuberbuhler of Darlington placed 3rd in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.02 seconds.

In the girls meet, Deerfield took 1st place with 84 points. Other results:

Vivian Lancaster of New Glarus finished 2nd in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.09 seconds. Alaina McGowan of Darlington was 3rd in the 400 meter dash in 1:02.90. Adalee Berget of Darlington placed 2nd in the 3200 meter run in 11:34.97. Marie Besley of New Glarus won the 100 meter hurdles in 16.82 seconds and she took 2nd place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.80 seconds. Besley also placed 2nd in the pole vault at eight feet, six inches. Reese Speth of New Glarus was 2nd in the shot put with a toss of 33 feet, 10.25 inches. Gracie Atkinson of New Glarus took 1st place in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, two inches. The girls 4x100 meter relay team of Kennedy Sysko, Clara Winden, Adelyn Sarbacker, and Annabelle Curl won the relay with a time of 51.31 seconds.
