Orioles finish unbeaten in conference

ALBANY - Black Hawk sophomore Hannah Butler had a match-high 15 kills and posted four blocks to lead the Warriors to a sweep over Albany Thursday.

Black Hawk (10-2 Six Rivers East) rolled to a 25-17, 25-7, 25-15 win over the Comets. Black Hawk senior Hannah Herbst dished out 13 assists. With the win, the Warriors locked up second place in the conference.

Albany (1-11 Six Rivers East) was led by junior Libby Beck who had nine kills and 13 digs. Junior Sydney Bloedel had 12 assists and senior Haley Stefanik racked up 18 digs.

Fourth-seeded Black Hawk will host 13th-seeded Faith Christian in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal match Tuesday. Albany received a 15th seed and will play at second-seeded Catholic Central.



Argyle 3, Juda 0

JUDA - The Argyle volleyball team wrapped up an unbeaten Six Rivers East Conference season en route to its third straight title by sweeping Juda Thursday.

Argyle junior Jena Saalsaa had a match-high 10 kills and senior Ashley Bruehlman had nine kills and two blocks to help the Orioles cruise to a 25-11, 25-6, 25-017 win over the Panthers.

Argyle junior Jadyn Saalsaa delivered six aces and seven digs. Junior teammate Kirsten Ostby racked up 22 assists and Morgan Nelson added seven digs.

Juda senior Hailey Kammerer posted five kills and eight digs to lead the Panthers. Senior MacKenzie Byrne dished out 11 assists and senior Erika Duecker had two blocks.

Third-seeded Argyle (15-6, 12-0 Six Rivers East) will host Monticello in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal match Tuesday. Eighth-seeded Juda (9-11, 5-7) will play a regional quarterfinal match at University Lake in Hartland Tuesday.



Monticello 3, Pecatonica 2

MONTICELLO - Hannah Zanow had 16 kills and six aces as the Ponies came from behind to knock off the Vikings in the regular season finale, 25-17, 14-25, 24-26, 25-11, 15-5.

"It was back and forth in the third (set)," Monticello head coach Scott Smice said. "We picked it up in the fourth and fifth. It was an emotional night, being senior night."

Abby Wicker had 14 kills and four aces for Monticello, and senior teammate Alaya Hummel added nine kills and four aces. Lindsey Pence and Miah Brokopp combined for 51 assists, and Alyssen Noriega had 43 digs.

The Ponies finished 3-9 overall in the Six Rivers East. Pecatonica will travel to Barneveld for its regional quarterfinal match.
