MONROE — Coaches, students and volunteers spent about two hours squeegeeing the wet courts on Sept. 17 in order to get the Cheesemakers’ home RVC match against the Comets in, as time is limited with subsections just weeks away. After the misty weather faded and the courts were playable, Monroe came away with a 5-2 victory.

Monroe swept the singles flights. At No. 1 singles, Ryann Dahlmann defeated Jayna Kirkpatrick 6-2, 6-2. Kaya Holverson was nearly perfect against Reyes Sanchez Giselle at No. 2 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1. Jade Tran swept Grace Becker in the first set of No. 3 singles, 6-0, but had to fight in the second set to come away with a 7-5 victory. At No. 4 singles, Miah Coppes defeated Adaline Becker 6-0, 6-2.

“Ryann Dahlman finished her match with just barely enough light to see the ball and took care of a very solid No. 1 player in Jayna (Kirkpatrick),” Monroe coach Matt Bordner said. “Kaya, Jade, and Miah all continued to be rock solid for us as singles players as we were able to get the singles sweep with our lineup.”

Monroe’s No. 1 and No. 2 doubles both lost, but the No. 3 tandem of Telina Gratz and Paizley Kundert held firm, winning 6-4, 6-4.

“Paizley and Telina rounded out our last win as they picked up another solid win against a No. 3 team in Delavan that has had a very solid conference season,” Bordner said.

At No. 1 doubles, Caedyn Blackburn and Elise McKenzie fell 7-6 (4), 6-1. Bralyn Liphart and Ella Mortimer dropped a tight match at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 3-6, 10-4.

“Caedyn/Elise played their most competitive match. We utilized more lobbing and some different formation looks and saw much more success, even though we didn’t grab the win,” Bordner said. “Bralyn and Ella also played well, especially coming back to snag the 2nd set, but were unable to squeeze out the super tiebreaker.”
