MCFARLAND — The Cheesemakers dropped to 1-4 on the year with a third one-score loss last week. The host Spartans never trailed, taking the first lead of the game in the opening quarter on a 26-yard TD run from Jayden Bloodsaw.
The Cheesemakers countered minutes later on a 23-yard run from Gage Jelle. Bloodsaw scored again in the second quarter on a 1-yard plunge. In the third quarter, McFarland’s Garrett Crull threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Parker Roh to make it 21-7.
McFarland doinked a short 22-yard field goal no good in the fourth quarter that would have made it a three-score game with 2:21 left. The Cheesemakers went on to answer. Monroe QB Ryan Roelli scrambled to the first down marker on fourth-and-seven to keep the following drive alive, then connected with Joah Wellman for a 31-yard pass to get into Spartan territory. McFarland then forced another fourth down, but Roelli hit Tristen Anderson on a deep corner route for 33 yards down to the two-yard-line with less than 50 seconds to play. Moments later, Anderson punched it into the end zone to cap the drive, bringing it back to 21-14 with just 39 seconds left.
McFarland recovered the onside kick to seal the game.
The Spartans finished the night with 365 yards of offense, including 157 yards rushing from Bloodsaw. Roh had seven catches for 113 yards and a score, while QB Garrett Crull was 23 of 36 passing for 214 yards with a TD and an INT.
New Glarus 28, Mineral Point 21
MINERAL POINT — The ninth-ranked Glarner Knights fended off the Pointers in Week 5 thanks to a sustained ground attack. New Glarus rushed for 269 yards on 31 attempts (8.7 ypc), and added another 52 yards on 6 of 9 passing.
The Knights (4-1, 2-1 SWAL) scored in each of the first two quarters, taking a 14-0 advantage into halftime. Mineral Point (3-2, 1-2) made it 14-7 in the third quarter, and both teams scored a pair of touchdowns in a back-and-forth fourth quarter.
Brent Weeden led the Knights with 118 yards rushing on just eight carries (14.8), which included a 42-yard TD run. QB Brock Roth had 62 yards and a score on the ground, Carson Prechel added 40 yards rushing with a TD, and Brady Baer tallied another 40 yards on eight carries (5.0 ypc). Noah Garcia led New Glarus with 11 total tackles on defense. Mason Lien had an interception.
For Mineral Point, QB Liam Carey was 21 of 31 passing for 284 yards, a TD and an INT. He added 15 yards and two TDs on the ground and had a team-high 10 tackles on defense. Elliot Kite was his main target, finishing with 136 yards and a TD on seven catches.
Darlington 49, Southwestern/East Dubuque 7
DARLINGTON — The top-ranked Redbirds gained 386 yards rushing and held the Wildcats to 163 yards of offense in a Week 5 tilt.
Calum Crist finished the game with 136 yards and three TDs on just nine carries (15.1 ypc), while Dante Glendenning had 68 yards on six attempts (11.3 ypc) with two scores. QB Zeke Zuberbuhler finished with 74 yards rushing on eight carries (9.3 ypc). David Arguelles (6/34) and Yasser Andino-Andino (6/38) also scored for Darlington.
The Redbirds (5-0, 3-0 SWAL) led 35-0 at halftime thanks to two first-quarter TDs from Glendenning, and three second quarter scores from Crist. SW/ED’s lone score came with 5:13 left in the fourth quarter.
Belleville 35, Horicon/Hustisford 8
HORICON — Wildcat QB Rayden Taylor was responsible for four TDs in his team’s Week 5 win over the MarshFalcons. Taylor was 4-for-7 passing for 39 yards with a score, then added another 138 yards rushing on just five carries (27.6 ypc) with three scores.
Jackson Fahey had 36 yards rushing on five touches (7.2 ypc) with a touchdown for Belleville. Charley Spiegel added a 7-yard TD catch. Defensively, Joshua Bair and Landon Yarbough each recovered a fumble. Yarbough had four solo tackles, three for a loss, and two sacks, and Max McCluskey intercepted a pass for Belleville (4-1, 3-0 Eastern Suburban).
The Wildcats are in a dead heat for first place in conference with Pardeeville (5-0, 3-0). In Week 6, Belleville hosts Poynette (4-1, 2-1).
Black Hawk/Warren 54, Seneca/Wauzeka-Steuben 6
SENECA — The Warriors bounced back with a vengeance following a Week 4 loss, punishing SWS on a water-soaked field.
BHW RB Dax Paquin had 109 rushing yards on 11 carries (9.9 ypc) and three TDs to lead the way. QB Beau Podner tallied 86 rushing yards and 68 passing yards and two TDs. Trend Bidlingmaier also scored for the Warriors, which had 242 team rushing yards on 30 attempts (8.1 ypc). Defensively, Alex Heimann had an interception and a fumble recovery for BHW.
SWS had just 101 yards of offense.
Riverdale 27, Pecatonica-Argyle 22
MUSCODA — The Vikings out-gained the Chieftains in offensive yardage, but turnovers helped Riverdale stifle Pec-Argyle in Week 5.
The visiting Vikings (3-2, 1-2 Six Rivers) had 370 yards of offense to Riverdale’s 257, but the Chieftains (3-2, 2-1) recovered three fumbles in the wet and soggy conditions.
Pec-Argyle QB Martin Anderson was 7 of 13 for 109 passing yards and a TD, and added another 99 yards and a score on the ground. Brock Erickson had 162 rushing yards and a score for the Vikings, and Luke Leonard caught a TD pass. Charlie Krebs led Pec-Argyle with 10 tackles.
Riverdale’s Bevyn Dennis had 122 passing yards, 108 rushing yards and four total TDs.
Platteville 56, Brodhead-Juda 16
PLATTEVILLE — The Hillmen punished the Cardinals en route to their fifth straight loss this season right out of the gate in Week 5. Platteville scored four straight touchdowns to open up the game, leading 28-0 with 8:18 left in the second quarter.
Brodhead-Juda answered with a 37-yard TD pass from Kraig Walter to Landen Malcook. The two-point conversion from Grayson Arn made it 28-8 with 5:21 left in the half. Platteville would score once more before the break on Brooks Wiegel’s third of five TD rushes on the night.
Platteville led by as much as 56-8 with a running clock in the fourth quarter. Arn scored the last touchdown of the game on a 56-yard run. He also added a second two-point conversion.
Arn finished the night with 137 yards rushing on 21 carries. Walter was 5 of 14 passing for 58 yards with a TD and an INT.
Wiegel had 225 yards rushing with five TDs. The Hillmen amassed 452 yards on the ground and added another 171 through the air — a total of 626 yards of offense.
Fall River/Rio 49, Parkview-Albany 0
ORFORDVILLE — The Vikings struggled in Week 5, giving up 400 yards of offense to the visiting Rebels.
QB Jaxon Tuchalski had 166 yards through the air, 34 on the ground and three total TDs. Lukas Alvin had 164 rushing yards on 14 carries, plus three catches for 58 yards and four total TDs.
The Rebels put just one TD on the board in the first quarter, but went into halftime leading 27-0. A 15-point third quarter ignited the mercy-rule running clock.
