Carol A. Maveus, age 82 of Monroe passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at the New Glarus Home. She was born on December 12, 1943 the daughter of Alvin and Marie (Gerber) Rufer. Carol graduated from Monroe High School in 1962. On March 8, 1964 Carol married Merlin Maveus.

Carol was a homemaker throughout her life and took great pride in raising her children and caring for her family. She also served as the treasurer for Clarno Township for 31 years. Carol was a longtime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and most recently a member of Primrose Lutheran Church in Belleville. Carol loved to dance, especially the polka. In 2024, she was among the many participants who danced at Cheese Days to set a Guinness World Record. She and Merlin also looked forward to going dancing at the New Glarus Hotel every Friday night for many years. Carol was very proud of her Swiss heritage and was well known for making Brätzeli. She will be remembered for her joyful nature and infectious laughter.

Carol is survived by her children, Laurie (Ben) Fuller and John (Susie) Maveus; grandchildren, Nicholas and Matthew Maveus, Brandon and Analise (fiancé, Devin Rivera) Fuller; and siblings, Robert (Bev) Rufer, Kenneth Rufer, Larry Rufer, Diane (Michael) Hineman, and Rosella Zettle; and sister-in-law, Janice (Rick) Schneider.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, LeRoy Rufer; sisters-in-law, Dottie and Ruth Rufer; and brother-in-law, Dwight Zettle.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Primrose Lutheran Church in Belleville at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jason Hill officiating. Private family burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
