Raiders suffer first two defeats of the season

BELLEVILLE — Sugar River lost a pair of nonconference games at the UW-La Crosse Invite April 25-26. 

First, the Raiders fell 1-0 to Holmen after giving up a second half goal. In the second game, The Prairie School upended Sugar River 7-1. 

Anya Brenkman scored Sugar River’s lone goal of the weekend. Mackenzie Ohms and Savanna Minter split both games, playing an entire half each. Ohms saved 17 of 21 shots on the weekend, while Minter stopped 6 of 11.

Sugar River (8-2, 2-0 Capitol) was scheduled to play Cambridge-Deerfield April 29.

Meanwhile, Monroe lost its April 24 game at Beloit Memorial 4-0. The Cheesemakers (0-6-1, 0-2-1 Rock Valley) have been outscored 43-1 this season and are scheduled to host Whitewater/Palmyra-Eagle on May 1.
