ORFORDVILLE — Parkview-Albany needed to defeat Johnson Creek in order to win the Trailways South Conference outright, and the Vikings delivered with a 54-12 victory during the Parkview-Albany duals on Thursday, Jan. 25. The only points the Bluejays earned were on forfeits.
The Vikings completed the sweep with wins over Montello (60-0) and St. John’s Northwest Military Academy (41-35). Six wrestlers went 3-0 on the night — Trevor Haugen (113), Slater Valley (120), Danny Finley (126), Balin Lacy (138), Sam Schwengels (190) and Wes Egan (215).
In addition to celebrating the conference championship, Parkview-Albany also inducted six new members into the Parkview wrestling Wall of Fame — Dennis Kane, Pete Olsen, Rex Markee, Jeff Crandall, Gary Lewis and Kerry Knutson.
BRUCE TOURBIER MEMORIAL SCRAMBLE
ROSENDALE — Parkview-Albany took its success into the weekend, where the Vikings finished fourth of nine teams at the Bruce Tourbier Memorial Scramble on Saturday, Jan. 27. Valley, Finley, Schwengels and Egan finished first in their respective brackets.
Valley (34-4) had two pins and a tech fall before a 13-2 major decision over Chilton-Hilbert’s Wyatt Wilcox in the championship.
Finley (38-2) tallied a 17-0 tech fall and four pins, including a win over Lakeside Lutheran’s Dominic Garcia-Hix in the championship.
Schwengels (39-1) pinned four opponents before taking the title with a medical forfeit from Ripon’s Jordan Perkins.
After a first-round bye, Egan (38-1) pinned his next two opponents. He then took the title with a medical forfeit in the semifinals and injury default in the championship.
LADY HUSKIES INVITE
MILWAUKEE — Sydney Coyne (235; 15-5) represented Parkview-Albany in the Lady Huskies Invite on Saturday, Jan. 27. The junior went 5-0 with four pins and a medical forfeit to win her bracket.
