Monroe head coach Matt Bordner explained a few changes made to the singles lineup.

“We continued to play with Sam Roidt in the singles lineup and shifted Eli to doubles with Michael, and we so far have liked that switch. Sam is now 8-0 on the season and has continued to just run with every opportunity he has been given. Alex (Gerrits) took care of business against a really solid and experienced No. 1 in Ty Hillson. Our doubles lineup also played extremely well and continues to be a really bright spot for us this season,” Bordner said.

The Cheesemakers also received word that they are ranked No. 10 in the state in Division 2 tennis.

“It’s the first time in my 9 years that we have been ranked. It’s a nice tip of the cap to our guys this year that have put in a ton of work, and also a shout out to all of the guys that have played in past years that have continued to slowly build the program back up,” Bordner said.

Monroe is now 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the Rock Valley Conference. The Cheesemakers travel to Jefferson for their next match on Tuesday, May 5.

Stoughton Invitational

At the Stoughton Invitational on Saturday, April 25, the Cheesemakers took first place against six other teams with 51 points, winning 20 of 21 matches.

“Our varsity team had a phenomenal performance. This should give us a nice boost in confidence as we continue into the heart of our season,” Bordner said. “We were shorthanded and played without Hamilton Stites and Eli Salzwedel, but we saw guys like Sam Roidt, Barrett Brandli, and Tysen Folgate all step up and play well when called upon.”

Kyle Bordner and Dan Saunders filled in coaching the Cheesemakers as Matt Bordner was unable to attend.
