NEW GLARUS — Sugar River’s streak of 66 straight Capitol Conference wins was brought to an end, 4-1, by the unbeaten Lake Mills L-Cats on Tuesday, April 28.

Sugar River had gone 65-0-1 in the Capitol Conference soccer since a 1-0 loss to Lodi on April 7, 2016.

Sugar River scored first on a goal by junior Kate Parman, assisted by junior Nikole Schultz just 46 seconds into the match. That would be all the scoring for the Raiders as the L-Cats got first-half goals at 14:27 and 37:37 to take a 2-1 halftime lead.

Lake Mills scored twice more in the second half with goals at 40:41 and at 73:22.

Senior Savanah Minter played all 80 minutes in goal and made six saves. Sugar River (6-2-1, 2-1) was to host River Valley in a nonconference game on Thursday, April 30 and will return to Capitol Conference play at Lakeside Lutheran on Tuesday, May 5.

Whitewater/Palmyra-Eagle 5, Monroe 0

WHITEWATER — The Monroe Cheesemakers were hoping to build on their 6-1 win over Clinton/Beloit Turner on April 23, but Whitewater/Palmyra-Eagle shut out the Cheesemakers 5-0 in Rock Valley Conference soccer on Monday, April 27.

“We matched up well against Whitewater/Palmyra-Eagle and played our best soccer yet,” said Cheesemaker coach Samantha Rudi. “A couple of goals were conceded due to small mistakes that Whitewater/Palmyra Eagle took advantage of, and we couldn’t find the back of the net on offense.”

Senior Kennedy Voegeli played all 80 minutes at goalkeeper and had 10 saves for the Cheesemakers.

Monroe (0-4, 0-3 RVC) were scheduled to host the Evansville Blue Devils on Thursday, April 30.
