Cheesemakers advance to sectionals

MONROE — The Monroe Cheesemakers were one of four teams to qualify for the WIAA Division 2 golf sectionals from the regional held at Monroe Golf Course on Tuesday, May 26.

The top four teams qualify for sectionals and the Cheesemakers shot a 335 to finish fourth out of 10 teams. Platteville won the regional with a 318, Lancaster was second with a 327, and Cuba City/Benton/Southwestern was third with a 329.

Senior Brock Brandli led the Cheesemakers with a 79. Senior Brady Koehn fired an 82. Junior Troy Spotts shot an 86. Senior Brady Stuart got an 88 and senior Hans Brandt also had an 88.

The New Glarus Glarner Knights finished eighth with 368. Senior Isaac Ingwell just missed being one of four individuals to qualify for the sectionals by one stroke. Ingwell shot an 84 to lead New Glarus. Junior Kofi Belknap had a 91. Sophomore Kellen Martinson also had a 91. Senior Grady Johnson fired a 102. Freshman Braden Goodness carded a 106.

Monticello-Belleville shot a 379 to place ninth. Senior Caleb Heiser also just missed the cutoff to qualify for sectional, finishing one stroke behind with an 84. Senior Jackson Scholey had a 95. Senior Cooper Nemec shot a 97. Junior Raife Jurrens fired a 103.

Brodhead was 10th with a 443. Junior Josiah Blum was the top golfer for Brodhead with a 96. Junior Avery Rufer finished with a 104. Sophomore Aiden Arn got a 120 and junior Wyatt Keyser had a 123.

The sectionals for Division 2 will be held June 2 at Edelweiss Chalet Country Club in New Glarus.

Division 3

The Darlington Redbirds and Argyle-Pecatonica golf teams qualified for the WIAA Division 3 sectionals after finishing third and fourth, respectively, at the regionals held at Deer Valley Golf Course in Barneveld on Tuesday, May 26.

The Redbirds shot a 357 and were led by junior Kaleb King with an 87 and placed 11th overall. Sophomore Tavin Brunkow had an 87. Senior Blaze White and senior Broker Buschor each carded a 91. Senior Alex Fox shot a 97.

Argyle-Pecatonica shot a 367 with senior Caleb McKenna leading the way with an 86, good for 10th place overall. Senior Cohlman Schlimgen got an 88. Junior Blake Ferrell had a 96. Sophomore Tucker Bethke finished with a 97. Sitting at 4-over-par through eight holes, junior Avari Steiner withdrew.

The sectionals for Division 3 will be held at Trempealeau Mountain Golf Club in Cochrane-Fountain City June 2 and June 3.
