Gloria E. Opie, age 92 of Gratiot died on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at the SSM Health Hospice Home. She was born on March 6, 1934 in Monroe, the daughter of Albin and Elsie Rufer Indergand. She attended grade school at the Bethel School and graduated from high school in Monroe in 1952. Gloria married Charles Opie on August 13, 1952 at St. John’s Church in Monroe.

She farmed and raised a family with Charles until they retired in 1998. She loved spending time with the family, liked to play cards, collected farm toys and loved to spend time outside on the farm. She was baptized and confirmed at the St. John’s UCC Church.

Gloria is survived by her children; Daryl (Susie) Opie and their children, Terry, Kelly, and Dennis, Jeffrey Opie, Cheryl (David) Webster and her children, Aaron and Erika, Tammy (Kim) Piefer and their child, Kody, and Jason (Sarah) Opie and their children, Lillian and Lorelie; nine great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Mary Aeberhard.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles on 11/29/2020; parents; infant son, Gregory; infant brother, Victor; brothers, Kenneth, Brooks, and Louis; and daughter-in-law, Tami Opie.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 12:00 PM Noon at St. John’s UCC with Reverend Todd Hackman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolence may be sent to the family at: shgfuneralhome.net.
