MINERAL POINT — New Glarus opened the baseball season against one of the state’s top teams. Tied at 3-3 in the fifth inning, the host Pointers pulled away with runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth to win the nail-biter.
Ethan Friedrich had two hits for New Glarus in the 9-hole. He also had a stolen base. Eli Zimmerman threw 3.1 innings for the Knights, striking out seven while allowing two hits and five walks, with three runs (one earned). Brett Warrell pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits with two strikeouts. Warrell was charged with the loss.
Each team had four hits in the game, while Mineral Point committed four errors to just two for New Glarus.
