MONROE — Habitat for Humanity is raising the roof for a family in need. The organization is building a house for a family in Monroe, and it has brought a wonderful group of people together. Launch along with Green County Development Corporation has given a group of students with the Monroe High School LAUNCH program a chance to use the skills that they have obtained and help with the build. Under the careful guidance of Jeremy Meier, LAUNCH instructor, and Kevin Carpenter, project manager for Green County Development Corporation, the group is putting this project ahead of schedule.
Stone Knudson-Shelly, McKenzie Riley, and their son Woodland Knudson will be the owners of this home when finished.
Every home built by Habitat requires the new owners to put in “sweat equity” and are provided with an interest-free loan. This organization is helping families that could never dream of homeownership and requires that homeowners go through home maintenance and finance classes so they are educated in what it takes to maintain and own a home.
Olivia Otte from Green County Development, Jeremy Meier of the LAUNCH Program, and Bruce Sweeney, project manager for Habitat all spoke at the event announcing the build and introducing the owners. This will be Habitat for Humanity’s 20th home built in Green County, and they are always looking for volunteers. Green County Habitat for Humanity will also be holding a breakfast fundraiser at the Moose Lodge on the May 3.
