Mary Arnsmeier Stauffacher
Mary Arnsmeier Stauffacher

Mary Arnsmeier Stauffacher passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026 after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Mary was born April 18th, 1950 to her parents Raymond and Marie (Armstrong) Arnsmeier. She married Robert “Bob” Stauffacher on March 14th, 1970 at the Juda Evangelical Church.

Mary worked at UTELO aka TDS from 1968 to 1999. After her retirement from TDS she worked at the Monroe Clinic Hospital until 2016.

Mary’s greatest accomplishment and joy was her daughter, Brenda, as well as Brenda’s husband and children. Living only two blocks from each other, she saw her grandchildren almost daily and rarely missed an opportunity to watch them in their many sports and musical activities. From the extreme heat of fall sports and then freezing temperatures of spring sports, she was their biggest fan.

Mary’s many hobbies included, spending time in her garden, and teaching her grandkids how to nurture and care for plants. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends, whether she was golfing or going out playing cards.

Mary was such a selfless and caring person. She never complained about anything and was always the first person to help her loved ones when they needed her. She will be missed by so many people. Almost exactly 4 weeks ago to the day, she lost her beloved husband Bob, and she has now gone home to be with him.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Thomas) Salzwedel of Monroe; four grandchildren, Anna Jenson of Boscobel, Amber (Anderson) Jenson of Kalamazoo, MI, Ian (Katie) Salzwedel of Boyd, WI, Eli Salzwedel of Monroe; and siblings, Karl (Barbara) Arnsmeier of Keizer, Oregon,

Bonnie Gedmin of Monroe, and Lois Beld of Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert “Nutter” Stauffacher on April 12, 2026, infant sister, Arlene, and brother-in-law, Mike Gedmin.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a celebration of Mary and Bob’s life at Nett’s Sports Bar in Monroe. A memorial fund will be established for SSM Monroe Hospice. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net

The family wishes to thank SSM Monroe Hospice for their wonderful care.
