MONROE — On Tuesday, July 21, antique equipment enthusiasts gathered for an annual binding at Jeremy Treuthardt’s wheat field south of Monroe.

About 15 members of the Thunderbridge Flywheelers group, based out of Argyle, met up to work on the binding, as one drove the tractor and the others follow along with pitchforks as the binder spins around the wheat, cutting it. The wheat then gets scooped up and run through the binder, eventually being gathered and dropped back onto the field for the waiting pitchforks.

Modern combines can finish a field in as little as 15 minutes, whereas the antique process can take several hours.

The upcoming Thunderbridge Flywheelers 14th Annual Thresheree will be held Sept. 12-13 at Argyle Legion Park, starting at 8 a.m. each day. It will feature threshing, rock crushing, baling, tractor corn shelling, dynamometer horsepower check and a kid’s pedal pull. There will also be antiques, a flea market, craft show and community antique tractor pulls.

Vendors are wanted, and there is no vendor entry fee and no space restrictions. Outdoor setup only.
