SOUTH WAYNE — The School District of Black Hawk will be holding a community meeting regarding the consideration of a girls basketball cooperative on July 30. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the lower commons at Black Hawk Schools in South Wayne.

According to Black Hawk Athletic Director Eric Erickson, the school district held a meeting two years ago when school officials saw the girls basketball program was becoming thin in participation. Erickson said at that time the consensus was to forge ahead and weather it.

This past season, Black Hawk was 5-17 overall and 2-12 in the Six Rivers East with 11 players on their varsity roster. In the 2024-2025 season, the Warriors were 15-11 overall and 7-7 in the Six Rivers East with nine players on their varsity roster.

Black Hawk girls basketball has had great success in recent history. The 2018-2019 team went 28-0 and won the Division 5 state championship, and the 20219-2020 team went 26-0 and went to the state tournament only to have the tournament canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020-2021 team went 21-1 and reached the Division 5 state tournament.
